    Fun environment to work in.

    Cashier/Merchandiser (Current Employee)
    Airdrie, AB (Canada)

Prosfriendly staff, always something to do, clean and well maintained.

ConsThe only con I have about this job is that it is low pay. Other then that, it has been fantastic working for them.

Cut costs to increase bottom line to their own detriment

    Pharmacy Assistant (Current Employee)
    Ottawa, ON (Canada)

    Pros30% Employee discount Canada wide.

ConsThey cut staffing to the absolute minimum to save costs. This negatively impacts the level of service that can be provided and customer satisfaction. Store associates have limited ability to increase wages or make other independent decisions (ex. hire a registered pharmacy tech, or offer flu vaccine injections in the store) without approval from the higher ups.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe people working under you may have good ideas that are not being heard.

    Customer Service Rep

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros- Definitely a great place to work in your teenage years or in university for part-time
    - pay is slightly higher than minimum wage
    - hours are flexibly depending on your manager
    - meet great people that you can become friends with

Cons- depending on the store, for example my smaller store, I was forced to be trained on all departments including postal, cashier, merchandising, and cosmetics and yet my pay is still the same as when I started! This definitely depending on the Owner of the store so I would advise those who want to work to chose a bigger store bc the smaller ones will try to milk u and make you do everything at the same time.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart acting like you care even if you don't because its not fair that people who don't do work can stand there complain and the ones who do the most work and put in the most effort gets blamed for and not recognized for their work. Esp assistant managers!! who don't do anything literally and when you page them they don't come over.... or comes 20 minutes later and ask if you called them over for help. To the owners!! pick your managers properly bc they put an act infront of you and is normally 360 different when your not there ...

    A current store employee

    Cosmetician/Beauty Expert (Current Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsA neighborhood store catering to locals needs, get to meet & interact with people living & working in the store vicinity. Can be very fast-paced which makes it easier to work through the shift.

ConsFront store manager has no respect for subordinates. Cosmetic Manager shows favoritism making it very political & stressful to work.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire good effective managers to operate the department & store !

    Disappointing experience in retail sector

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Oakville, ON (Canada)

    ProsEmployee discount 30%
The other employees are really nice

ConsThey deliberately schedule shifts below the maximum allowed by law, even though it's a job requirement that you stay later (closing out till in the cash office). A supervisor isn't always available at the end of the shift, so you have to wait around - on your own time - until one is available to take you back to the cash office where you cash out at the end of your shift - on your own time. The fact sheet that the Ministry of Labour requires be posted is nowhere to be seen. Probably because the fact sheet addresses the subject of my first point and they don't want employees to know about it. I've worked many jobs in retail and I've never felt so taken advantage of.

Advice to Senior ManagementSchedule staff based on the hours they're required to work - and pay them for the time worked. Follow labour laws.
