I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling made working around appointments possible. The staff discounts were a nice perk. Most of the staff were friendly and fun to work with. Interacting with customers was fun and rewarding (most of the time)

    Cons

Associates have little control of their store. No room for advancement. Little to no raises. Headoffice cutback to hours when workload has remained the same.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respond to HR concerns from store level. Provide training or opportunity for advancement within the pharmacy department. Assist with technicians licensure fees

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This served its purpose while I was in college by paying the bills and offering a somewhat flexible schedule. The pay is pretty standard when comparing it with other retail jobs.

    Cons

My management has been pretty questionable at times, but that will depend on the individual store. Scheduling often isn't as flexible as they make it sound, and we've had fairly high turnover which can be a bit draining. Not much room for advancement in the company, but that's not what you come here for.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The coworkers are like family love working here. Everyone is friendly and willing to help each other out!

    Cons

Associates are cheap and pay us supervisors so poorly. I've worked for 5 years and I barely get paid more than minimum wage. Experience means nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If supervisors are next in command after management. We should get paid as so.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free cosmetics, friendly coworkers, laid-back atomosphere of this particular store, nice associate and nice manager

    Cons

Not enough hours unless you are the cosmetics manager, low salary, not enough commission because of the area, customers are horrible in the area, late hours and sketchy area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the store is in a sketchy location, please don't make the employees work so late at night. Obviously manager gets to have whatever shifts she wants and doesn't have to deal with the horrifying sketchiness. Cosmetics section needs security especially late at night.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great experience and challenging work, fast paced, great people that are talented, dedicated and friendly.

    Cons

Didn't receive the same benefits as the full times since I was a co-op and it is the same for contract workers. Not too much room to move around, they want people to stay in same position and become specialists in that job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more flexible in moving employees to different departments so they can learn more, allow for co-ops and contracts some more benefits such as access to SDM university.
