I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart

    Pros

Easy process, friendly environment, work is not bad.

    Cons

I'm a merchandiser, I'm not sure if it's part of the job I'm doing allot of running around for others, also have my own work that has to be done and running around all Night getting and doing stuff for others, I'm afraid I won't get my work done on time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay for merchandisers should be more it's a lot of lifting and running around plus you have to do cash back up, how am I supposed to get my work done. At least $11.75 per hr.

    Pros

Good discount on products, nice people, easy work

    Cons

    Flexibility with vacations, low pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire and schedule more people to work in a single shift, customers will be happier too.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart

    Pros

The 30% Discount was a plus! I loved my customers :)

    Cons

The communication between Management and Employees was always different depending on who you talked to. Scheduling was ridiculous. 6 days on 1 day off! One night you close the next morning you open . They finally wore me out after 2 years of stress and low wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house at this store! Take notice of the amount of people that have quit at this store over the last 2 years!!!!

Former Employee - Beauty Advisor in Ajax, ON (Canada)

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

. The discount of 30%.. Working in the beauty department has its advantages, getting free stuff from schools and gratis when sales are up in different categories..

    Cons

They say they have an HR Dept to help employees. That's bogus.. You complain about something and they tell you, the owner/pharmacist can do what they want, its there store. Your best to make sure you get the money you want to start, cause raises are hard to come by. .....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look after your people, treat them with respect and just maybe they will treat you with respect. People work for a living to provide for there families.. Or students are paying there way through school. The turnover is absolutely horrendous. I was a beauty advisor and many customers came in and said they were so sick and tired of finding the right beauty advisor and trusting them, and them be gone the next time they were in..

    Cons

-promotion only occurs if you ask
    -time-off policies; stingy around holidays

-failure to make projected sales = labour hours slashed

-consider consistent training so everybody is on the same page

I've been working at Shopper's for about two months now; it's been a mostly very positive experience so far and I look forward to a long career

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The staff is friendly and upbeat, the supervisors and managers are as well for the most part. Hands on training allows you to learn quickly and pick it up easily. Someone is always around to answer questions and help out. Shopper's is a very professional environment and the store is ALWAYS very clean, tidy and well organized. The manager is an amazing person and posts the schedules well in advance.

    Cons

The supervisors often have different standards and opinions on how things should be done. You're expected to do a lot of things at once even when it's not possible to multitask so much.
These are problems that could easily be fixed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Outline job specifications a bit more clearly and keep your expectations less complicated and more realistic.

Former Employee - Front Store Supervisor in Edmonton, AB (Canada)

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with Co-workers -- work culture had a significant impact on why I stayed there for four years.

    Cons

Management cutting hours to reduce costs also reduces number of workers. I worked there for four years, and by the time I left I took on a Merchandising role with my Supervisor role to make up for "not enough people".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I suggest benefits to keep part-time employees longer and reduce turnover.

  10. Part-time store manager

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

-Reasonable pay compared to other stores/supermarkets
    -Ability to change shifts

    Cons

    -Could be very busy
-Limited career path (the best option at the moment was to get promoted to a full-time store manager, but it gets very difficult to move up beyond that)

  11. It was good

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Generally the people were all nice, and the work training was done well, and left me feeling prepared for the job

    Cons

The rate of pay was only slightly higher than minimum wage, even though it was significantly more responsibility. For being one of the most profitable companies in Canada, Shoppers should pay their employees more than minimum wage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management was generally nice
