Siemens is a great engineering company, which has strong presence in a variety of fields.

Research Intern (Former Employee) Princeton, NJ

ProsI had great experience with Siemens Corporate Research (SCR). SCR mostly works as an internal branch, meaning it develops solutions for other branches of the company. The researchers are exposed to a variety of current and future problems.

ConsThe only possible con that I can think of is that Siemens compensation & benefits are a little bit lower compared to other similar companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think management was extremely good in terms of educating and motivating the employees.

Good company with lots of opportunity if you are willing to relocate.

Director of Business Development (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsSmart people, variety of opportunities for advancement.

ConsStrategic change takes place every 3 - 5 years, lots of bureaucracy, Germany rules all - the US is the tail of the dog.

Advice to Senior ManagementEliminate the silos, give the countries and the divisions the chance to run their business without oversight. Pick more US leaders to lead US companies - many of the Germans selected to run US businesses struggle (and they typically don't realize it).

Good 1st experience but don't linger.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Princeton, NJ

Pros- Great colleagues, smart and diverse
    - Good benefit package
    - Responsible employer
    - Good technology & challenges
    - Flexible work environment

Cons- Heavy corporate culture, lots of bureaucracy & politics
    - Lot of managements layers and everything is slow
    - Poor leadership
    - No career growth
    - Compensation below average
    - Successive reorganizations disorienting all the businesses
    - Attrition rate

Advice to Senior Management- Appreciate employees based on merit not politics
    - Monitor talents and let them grow, not leave the company
    - Listen to the employees and don't call them stupid when they disagree
    - Stop announcing big things every 6 months if you can't make it happen

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Moderately Happy

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSalary and bonus is good, everybody is generally friendly, good work-life balance, work from home allowed with permission, good health care

ConsSomewhat bureaucratic, there are a lot of processes in place that help but at the same time hinders progress in a time crunch

    Diverse portfolio and global reach

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe portfolio is very broad which results in a diverse customer base. The company is divided into four sectors: Energy, Healthcare, Industry and Infrastructure & Cities. Roughly 18 business units divided into the sector, with individual P&L. Siemens operates in 190 countries, but is divided by region and managed in a decentralized manor.

ConsRarely is there an opportunity to move from one business unit or sector to another -- no formal process. There was a model for cross-selling, but it is no longer funded by the business units and there is no incentive to collaborate. Shame.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop letting CFOs make sweeping business decisions, especially when they do not have any face time with customers. The results are pleasing to shareholders, but the "fix" is short-term. Long term sustainability requires an investment in people, not spreadsheets.

Executive management has no clue on what is going on

    Project Manager (Current Employee)

    ProsBig company with deep pockets.

ConsThere is is no eight hour day. You are expected to put in long hours for no reward. Too much nonsense in executing.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the boots on the ground; better yet the customers.

Not the right fit for me

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Malvern, PA

ProsAwesome products, great investment in R&D, dedicated employees. The company does do a lot of communications about initiatives via email.

ConsUnless you are in sales you do not matter. The sense of entitlement is unbelievable and the executives have no clue just how bad the morale is.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the bullying managers, get a head of sales to set strategy and maybe we have a chance. Execs also need to be more visible.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
