I have been working at Siemens Energy

    Pros

Very flexible and great learning experience. I have been able to gain so much real world experience that will help me be a more valuable employee later on.

    Cons

I wouldn't say there are any cons except a headcount freeze.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help your employees gain full time positions even if it isn't in the same department.

I have been working at Siemens Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Overtime is a good way to make more money.

    Cons

Too much travel with no incentive to work outage after outage. Our OT rate stinks compared to other companies.

I have been working at Siemens Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent for what I do (mostly just sit in a cubicle and listen to people complain about their jobs, sometimes go visit customers)

    Cons

No opportunities for development or advancement; if you accomplish all annual goals/targets, pay raises are trivial; if your manager is not pulling you up through the ranks, there is no chance of any promotion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to you people -- all of them -- not just the "top talent" selectees; give people opportunities to branch out beyond their own roles;let people use their skills instead of ignoring their abilities; help them land development opportunities -- don't deny every opportunity that comes their way; if you send people to the field for 10 weeks at a time, acknowledge the hardship on their families.

I have been working at Siemens Energy

    Pros

The salaries are competitive and the work is highly rewarding, the company will keep their field engineers working even when business is slow. Time off is adequate, promotions are a little slow moving.

    Cons

High amount of travel and relocation required for some roles, company does not offer much assistance with relocation for field personnel, even if the project is for more than a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management and HR need to determine a more comprehensive way of evaluating their employees and reward/advance them based upon that.

Siemens was a great place to start my career.

I worked at Siemens Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Working in IT at Siemens Energy immediately thrust you into the world of large Corporate IT. Depending on your ambition, you will be given far more responsibility than your salary or title warrant. That means you get to learn fast and build a fantastic resume. It also is a place where you can fade into the background if that's what you choose. Overall it's a place with top notch colleagues and great opportunities to learn.

    Cons

Like any large company, politics and bureaucracy are a massive headache. Sometimes things are done for absolutely no good reason. And getting things done quickly is nearly impossible. You can make changes, but they will be slow and frustrating. If you live in the US, working with German colleagues can be a joy and a headache. But you will gain experience in learning to navigate a globally diverse culture.

If you are in IT there is a good chance you can get paid better elsewhere. Your raises won't keep you in line with market value, so that is something you will need to weigh. I think it is a great place to spend the first 3 - 5 years of your career and then maybe come back later on for the job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for better ways to compensate technical talent in a changing market. Streamline process, and look for the best tools to empower your workforce, not what just makes sense because of personal bias.

I worked at Siemens Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits were inexpensive and very good. Depending on the department you work in, there are some good people to work with.

    Cons

The salary was very low. They were very "procedure oriented" but never gave the procedure time to work before changing it again. I worked in a team, where several team mates would stab you in the back as soon as you turned your back. There was a lot of unnecessary drama.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salary was very very low for an experienced admin.
