Former Employee – worked at Siemens Energy & Automation full-time for more than 10 years

Pros – Siemens is a stable company to work for due to its shear size. For the most part you can rest at ease that your job is stable in the changing economic environment.
Cons – Very German, controlling, and rigid. Little to no advancement opportuntiy or direction for advancement. Advancement is based on politics rather than skills based. As a result operational preformance continues to decline in the U.S. Employees are working 110%, Co. refuses to hire needed people, invest in new tech., and is not open to suggestions therefore even good management will not take risks at the risk of politcal demise. In Finance they will only promote new 4yr level college grads quickly and refuse to acknowledge anyone with experience that was not hired through the FMT program, African Americans and working mothers are not qualified for the FMT program. Siemens will not acknowledge CPA as an advanced certification for promotion in the ATL officies. Female managers are often widely disrespected and are convenient casualties in politics, in contrast men in the same situations are promoted to new "roles" that are "better suited for them." No pension program, benefits are just fair in comparison.
Advice to Senior Management – Need more American based management here in the U.S. rather than foreigners that have no interest in advancing careers of U.S. citizens. Need actual experienced finance management from outside of the company to improve quality of finance data. The Germans value ultimate control in directly managing within the U.S. rather than allowing qualfied U.S. management to grow the business units.

Pros – Company values their employees, has learning and development programs for each employee, and is dedicated to advancing those that work.
Cons – VERY large company, with lots of red tape and politics. Occasionally, these get in the way of making the best choices for the business.
Advice to Senior Management – Consider giving ALL employees incentives to keep the company's best interests in mind (i.e. profit sharing, annual bonus, etc.)

Former Employee – worked at Siemens Energy & Automation
Pros – If you are 40 y.o. +, than this place is just fine. Job is easy and responsibilities are limited.
Cons – I wanted more challenges from my job and more money. Siemens is a huge company where things move slowly, you find yourself to be a tiny fish in the ocean. What frustrates most is decisions made on the very top that affect the whole departments and nothing you can do about it. For example, company wants to save on office space and relocates everyone one day without asking employees opinion. Also company did a poor HR job, software engineers were hired just to fill positions ASAP. If you travel on business, you will get a cap on spending, no alcohol expense and mid-to-low end hotel, like La Quinta. These factors add to the general feel of cheapness of the company.
Advice to Senior Management – Money saving steps, are necessary, but employees should be compensated somehow when the company saved a lot and posts great profits. Also, it would be great to make changes in the management to add community feel to the department. Health lifestyle initiatives: my friend at Chase told me he gets some bonus points for exercising at the gym. If the office location away from the public transit, at least to bring up the topic of picking up employees from to/from work. Yearly reviews are pointless: no matter how you perform, your increase is limited by the allocated budget and company guidelines.
