I worked at Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics

    Pros

Benefits were okay. The goal of the work was positive (produce medical technology).

    Cons

Terrible leadership, unmotivated staff. Very poor place to learn and grow. The environment was very political and made it impossible to get work done.

-Explain in detail why key metrics are important and then focus the operations on improving those things that affect the metrics the most

I have been working at Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good company to gain experience.
Very smart people and great culture.
    Approachable management team.
    Work/Life balance is respected.
Full benefits as it is standard for a corporation of this size (incl. 20 days vacations from start)

    Cons

No career growth opportunities depending on the position and business unit you are working for.
    Low salaries
Too many policies and regulations make it very difficult to get things done in a proactive way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage recognition and promotion for employees at all levels. This could improve productivity and quality of work.

I have been working at Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Immediate supervisor and coworkers were great. Exciting to be working on cutting edge technology.

    Cons

I was hired as a contract employee, and it was made clear in little ways that contract employees were not seen as the same as real employees. Confusion regarding company restructuring and lack of employee trust in senior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace contract employees as much as possible (i.e. allow onsite nurses to give vaccinations to contract employees, don't make contract employees sign in an out every day when non-contract employees don't have to). More transparency and following up on promises to employees during restructuring.

    Pros

The Pay, the company car. There were many pros. Loved the profit sharing plan with the stocks.

    Cons

At first it started out very sporadic, but then was Expected to work 10 to 12 hour days every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your doing pretty good, keep the profit sharing plans,

I worked at Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Large corporation with valuale benefits.

    Cons

Minimal growth opportunity due to poor business performance after the acquisition and "integration" of Bayer and Dade Behring. Very disorganized from an executive level. Certain departments are worth working under, but the business approach is full of silos. Seniority is overvalued and talent is extremely undervalued.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think big picture. Management seemed very detached from how their departments and employees contributed to the overall success of the business.

    Pros

The people, exposure to other sectors and ability to move between sectors

    Cons

Through the years of integration too much change which was more confusing than strategic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a strategy and stick with it. Don't promote people to the point of incompetency.

I have been working at Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The full benefits are nice to have. Not worrying about health, dental or a savings plan is a relief. The work was not necessarily stressful or overly demanding and I was able to go home to my life after I punched out and "leave work at work," so to speak.

    Cons

The lower-than-average salary is clearly a negative. The way salaries increase (or don't, depending on how the company is doing - and lately that's been pretty poor despite what they say at all of our meetings) is unsettling and unreliable. The subjective scale used to rate employees at end-of-year meetings which then determine your bonuses is unfair. Perhaps my biggest problem with this company is the way which people are promoted - or really, NOT promoted at my site. The longer you are around, the more security you will clearly have but it will literally take YEARS to establish this. You will not be promoted based on skill level or capabilities, but how long you've "stuck around." This is a very old-Reich way of doing things and does not allow new talent to shine. It makes for a stifling atmosphere. Instead, you should work on fostering an atmosphere where new talent can contribute and shine, not be overshadowed by "lifers."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promoted based on talent and performance, not ability to stay in one place for years.

    Cons

Lack of direction. Unstable. No opportunity to advance or learn new skills.
