Easy life but very poor pay to go with this.

    Trainee Engineer (Current Employee)
    Sheffield, England (UK)

ProsCan visit some good countries when fully trained
    Easy work

ConsThere are far to many rules and regulations
Trainee wages are extremely low and remain low untill you have completed a degree, if you dont do a degree they stay very low.
Working away is always very short notice.
As an engineer trainee you will get no experience in the office and struggle to move on from this role as oppertunities to progress in the company are very very rare.
No work on at the moment.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement do not understand anything beyond profit/loss,
To keep good new engineers within the company you need to pay your trainees more, this will ensure less people leave.

Great experience and great company to begin your career at.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIt is a huge company to work for, with quite a few travel opportunities and with a secure job due to the size of the corporation.

ConsThere are quite limited development opportunities for new students/ new graduates looking to develop. The training seems to be good but quite limited compared to some other companies. New talent needs to be employed

    Not a good experience overall

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Christchurch, England (UK)

ProsGood pay with good benefits and nice colleagues

ConsThe lack of good management and foresight.
    Killing a good business.
The pay is good, but other than that just grinds you down.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees as people rather than payroll numbers. Knee jerk reactions and rash decisions means you lose all the good people.

    Nice people, Boring work.

    Design Engineer (Former Employee)
    Christchurch, England (UK)

ProsInteresting travel opportunities if you push for them.
    Resonable range of work available.
Mostly, very nice genuinely helpful people.
Next to Bournemouth airport - so you can often watch the red arrows!
A wealth of knowledgable senior design engineers who are always happy to help when needed

    ConsNo obvious career progression.
A lack of feedback on a job done well.
Expectation of young design engineers to do the most uninspiring work for years.
Linked closely to the global steel and aluminium industry. So watch out for your job in the ressession.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees as valuable assets with good ideas not robots.
Provide a clear career direction for talented employees - do not keep them down or they will leave you.

    I'd rather be somewhere else.

    Senior Systems Engineer (Current Employee)
    Christchurch, England (UK)

ProsGood view of Hurn airport from the local office, very little else around .

ConsThe VAI group was recently acquired by Siemens mainly to remove a competitor in the metals industry. There is too much interference from head office in the way the company now operates. This is particularly evident for me in the area of technology development in which they have an insistence on maintaining control from HQ.
Siemens have a very rigid career structure and many people have left as they saw no way of advancing their careers.
The senior management was replaced after the acquisition and now have little contact with the general workforce.
Compliance has become a major issue after several senior German employees were involved in bribery and corruption.

Advice to Senior ManagementActually work on the "people are are most important resource" mantra and remember that most employees are not involved in corruption.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
