    Pros

My Colleagues and Administrative Support have been positive. A key reason for going into education is you can make a difference in the lives of others. The time off is appreciated.

    Cons

Getting thing done (this is a system wide problem). By this I don't simply mean at the College. It is a challenge for all community colleges, particularly when it comes to curriculum, to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Do not direct employees into action. Make them think what you want accomplished is their idea.

    Pros

The head of the basic skills math department is a pleasure to work with. Very supportive and encouraging.

    Cons

The Dean and Admin teams, don't support the basic skills department as they should. It is a fight for everything they have.

    Pros

Close to freeway, minimal smog and low taxes, Salary scale is OK.

    Cons

Traffic jams on Interstate 80. Poor inexperienced Deans. Limited awareness among higher level administrators of the classroom environment.Never see Deans or higher level administrators in the classroom areas. Dean has never visited my classroom but she has all of the answers. Lots of politics. Most students feel entitled and are generally lazy. Little respect by Deans given to professors, both fulltime and adjuncts. Non diverse atmosphere with nearly all white student body and faculty.Generally low morale among staff and faculty; just ask them privately. Poor communication between Deans and faculty. The college is on accreditation "watch" and the college is considered a "diploma mill" according to some college and university faculty and administrators.

    Advice to Management

Hire some experienced, professional and respectful Deans. Replace higher level administrators. Hold students accountable.

    Pros

Compared to other nearby community colleges, Sierra College has a more friendly environment.

    Cons

Compared to other nearby community colleges, Sierra College does not pay well--about $20 less an hour for adjuncts.

    Pros

Supportive managers, office culture very relaxed and easy to get time off. Students and fellow faculty are very nice. Would definitely wanna work here again. The Dean is awesome, was very supportive and was always there and receptive to questions. The Dean gave constructive feedback too.

    Cons

Nothing much really. Work life balance was great. The location itself is in a very hot area of California and the drive to work can be taxing.

    Advice to Management

    Give more work

    Pros

Nice work environment and interesting people to be around.

    Cons

The pay was pretty low, but that's to be expected with a student job.

    Pros

This job was very easy as far as stress level and responsibilities. The company was incredibly compliant with working around a 2-3 day a week college schedule and still giving me enough hours to stay around. The people i worked with became very close friends and the management was even very friendly as long as you were a good worker. This was also a good place to meet other emplyment opportunities due to the large amount of regular customers that i got to know. Was a very strong stepping stone to having a good resume right out of high school.

    Cons

There is almost no room for advancement here, and even when you do finally get to step up the pay is a joke. Some days i would work until 10pm, then be back at 5am opening the next day. When I would go out of my way and do something worthy of noting I might get a thank you if anyone noticed. But when I did the basic list of tasks I got acknowledgement. Took 2 years for my 90 day raise to go through.

    Advice to Management

As far as the store managers, they were very helpful. But district managers could show a little more enthusiasm when trying to motivate employees. Management should also actually give atleast a 25cent raise yearly to employees who exceed expactations without you having to harass them about it. Overall I liked the ease of this place, especially with a school schedule. It just isn't a placeto make into a career.
