Advice to Senior Management
Drive business more from perspective of providing a superior product and/or service, instead of basing deliverables on investor profits. It will serve you (employees and investors) and your customers better in the long term.
Pros
Decent and honest management; some opportunities to be entrepreneurial and encourage new ideas; the company has been restored to financial health following the Western energy crisis of 2000-2001.
Cons
The company's actions are overseen by the PUC of Nevada, and the current commission is focused on the company minimizing its capital expenditures to minimize rate impacts to the retail customers. Result is limited opportunity for expansion or doing much "outside the box".
Pros
Benifits, Retirement 401, pension, 100% tuition reimbursement,
Cons
Favorites, jealousy, indifference of your achievements, they dont regard internal employees as assets nor competent no matter what degrees and experience you have, just workers to do specific jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
You can't make decisions to hire and fire based on spreadsheets, if you clue in the employees your goals and allow them to get you there, you will see the value in people. Put Yakira back as CFO and get a business minded President back in there the company will do great things. Stop making so many financial blunders. Get rid of archaic paper based processes internally.
Pros
There are a lot of good people that surround you here. Everyone always greets with you a smile on their face
Your supervisor/manager/leader will always assure you that you are a successful part of the company.
You do positive work for the community
Good facilities... you'll work in a clean area
Cons
Publicly owned utility means we have to satisfy the wants of shareholders
Not very many cons in working at this company
Advice to Senior Management
I feel like our leadership is doing a good job and pay attention to our needs. Don't forget the little people.
Pros
Competitive compensation package
Good working schedules
Trying to develop on-going process improvement programs
Fairly recession proof
Good job security
Opportunities for self-development and career progression
Cons
Publicly regulate utility
Many business practices are outdated
Slow internal process for change
Old and/or disconnected data management processes
Accounting practices geared toward dealing with the Public Utility Commission versus actually running a profitable business.
Advice to Senior Management
NV Energy has a wealth of knowledge and experience in finance and accounting among the executive leadership. However, the internal accounting practices do not adequately support the front-line managers' ability to manage the business.
