I worked at Sign-a-Rama full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I stayed busy and the variety in my daily routine kept me interested.

    Cons

Each location is independently owned and operated so I became limited in experience by my employer's budget.
Online sign and print outlets also put a damper on business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest wisely.

I worked at Sign-a-Rama full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The work is fun, and the small company environment allowed the freedom to self-manage and be creative with your work.

    Cons

The boss was a lying, cheating crook (in all fairness, he eventually went out of business thank God).
NO room for any type of promotion
NO room for pay increase unless the shop experiences major growth
Owner training is a matter of a couple weeks, so even the owner may not be an expert.

I have been working at Sign-a-Rama full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Exciting opportunities when a customer comes in with an interesting idea. You can always find a way to challenge yourself and to learn new skills. The work schedule is very flexible and we always have weekends off.

    Cons

With such a fast paced environment things can get out of control quickly if your office is not organized. Also, the pay isn't very high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Standardize organizational tools and methods to train new employees.

I worked at Sign-a-Rama full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The best part about it was the honesty. Sometimes blunt honesty. People come in with expectations but those aren't always possible. A lot of times, that has to do with city ordinances, which the average person isn't familiar with.

    Cons

My office was small with the owner still recovering from a car accident from earlier in the year, so I don't think my training was as complete as it could have been.
For me specifically, I had a lengthy commute (MO-IL). Living in-state would have been much easier.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think there should be a store planners that visits all the branches to make sure that the overall corporate image, products, and brand is properly being displayed. (In this location, the previous employees had left a lot of clutter and display items in a random manner)

    Cons

Sign a Rama has a excellent culture and a strong commitment to it's employees. The training is effective giving you the ability to do your job. The open door policy help with the communication process.

    Cons

For me there are not any downsize working for Sign A Rama. I like the hours and i love working with business customers. I would like to see a few less locations.

I worked at Sign-a-Rama as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Opportunity to work at your own pace and really learn how to market in way that works if you want to. The system works if you work it. United Franchise Group has a great reputation and it can be a good career. You are also selling products that everyone uses/wants and are easy to learn and become an expert on.

    Cons

The snakes who slip through the cracks and own some businesses. I worked for a Sign-a-Rama for one day and ran in the other direction when I realized what a crook this joker of an owner is. On a separate occasion I have personally met a regional operations advisor and was quite pleased and impressed with his experience and what he had to say about the company. This particular Sign-a-Rama location however, was a dump.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not let the snakes drag you down. This owner has the only franchise in his geographic location and is ruining the brand.

I have been working at Sign-a-Rama full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The training delivered by our Field Developer was invaluable to my staff. I was very impressed with his industry knowledge and felt more than prepared to start my business.

    Cons

I must admit that I was a little skeptical about how everything would come together. It has been an eye opener in that this position can be beneficial for the franchisees that it supports.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold on to your best market training reps, they reflect well on corporate.
