Pros
Good chance to practice English
Cons
Not directly related to finance
Pros
Has a great "Brand Name" throughout the industry. Build decent quality products, and stand behind their products.
Cons
No attention to professional or career growth in the company or industry. Do not support additional education, industry organization memberships, or have a process of evaluating job performance.
Advice to Senior Management
I feel senior management needs to listen to their employees, not strictly the people around them. It seems senior management thinks they are in tune with what is going on in the company. Also, I recommend consolidating the construction/forward planning/off-sites divisions under one project management. Too much responsibility and information becomes lost through the pipeline.
Pros
It is a company that really cares about communities it builds, investing greater amount of time, effort and money into neighborhood design, architecture and landscaping.
The Sacramento office, unlike the headquarters was very flexible if letting people work around schedule emergencies.
The management is extremely knowledgeable.
Cons
Information system was pretty weak when I was there, but they have gone through a new system implementation when I was there. The top management constitutes a close-tied group of friends, which limits high-lelel promotions.
Some business decisions were based on relationships with suppliers rathern than cost, which generated significant amount of excess overexpenditures.
Advice to Senior Management
I think Signature is very different now from what it was 2 years ago. Hopefully, as they emerge in market recovery they will retain the positive elements and high standards of care for their communities, even as they learn to better control costs.
Pros
Signature Properties produces a good quality home that the employees can feel proud to have been a part of. The construction quality is high, the architecutral design is very good. Most communities are located in highly desirable areas. Excellaant advertising, marketing and merchandising. Signature Properties has a good customer service approach and has many repeat customers. This is a privately owned and operated business and all decisions are made at a local level. In the past the management team was well qualified and highly respected within the industry. The company has both a Bay Area and Sacramento division covering most of Northern California.
Cons
The company is owned by a small family with the father and founder as CEO and the oldest son is the president. There has been a long transition of managment between the two and consequently the direction of the company is always changing. Personalities play a very large role in the current managment, andt at any given moment the direction of the company any the expectations of the managment can and does change. There has not been good communication from the owners to the employees as to what is happening within the company. Many employees feel that they are not important to the owners.
Advice to Senior Management
Signature Properties should provide better communication to all the employees. They shoud develop a consistant channel for communications and then stay consistant in using it. They have many strong and knowlagle managers and they should listen to what thier input. There are too many decisions made without input from the correct manager..
