Pros
The pay and benefits for the union members are wonderful. Starting out, it will be small but there is much potential if you stay with the company for atleast a year. For the most part, the turnover rate is fairly low and the Human Resources department is respectful. If you are union at this company, you are not going to be without a job because of something you done.
Cons
The union mentailty/environment is not for everyone, so be careful. The union members are strictly distrustful of upper managment, and "sucking up" to your boss will not be tolerated by your coworkers. Honest communication (or any communication for that matter) between workers and upper managment is horrible. Also, this company has always been prone to bad buisiness practices, something they are perfectly fine broadcasting to its production employees when they want something extra out of them (give us more, because we are sinking and you may not have a job tomorrow). If they say that, they are not joking...I was laid off after working there almost five years. The automotive industry is very unstable and quite seasonal, so that mixed with their bad buisiness practices makes for terrible job stability. I am sure they might be changing. Bottom line, if you can work in a place where you are fine being treated like a machine and not like a person, you will be fine.
Advice to Senior Management
Understand you have angry employees that do not, and never will, trust you. That will always take a toll on what you produce. You have tried and failed in the past in being a friend or even being understood. You fire your non-union members way too fast, and keep your union members who almost want to sabatosh. There is alot of room here for improvement.
Pros
The company did provide a good benefits package.
Cons
The overall expierance was not good for me. At times I was made to feel that the company was the most important thing in my life, and that I was lucky to have a job there.
Advice to Senior Management
Recpect the personal lives of the employees that you have. There family time is being comprimised because the are if fear of loosing the jobs they have>
