    Pros

    1. It is a great place to start for entry level engineers coming out of college.
    2. Seeing the helicopters on the production line is a magnificent sight to see and gives you a realistic idea of how much goes into delivering an end product
    3. Usually good work environments and good diverse cultures.
    4. Pay & Benefits are decent compared to many other defense companies.

    Cons

    1. The major downside at Sikorsky is the constant layoff scare. Especially more now than ever due to UTC letting go of Sikorsky from under their wing.
    2. Growth at Sikorsky is hard because there are not an excess of new development/design programs and for the few that Sikorsky has, they usually bring in external upper level employees to fill those positions.
    3. Many times I get the feeling that management doesn't have a clue of what his/her team is doing, let alone know each persons name.
    4. Often times Sikorsky makes a big fuss about having an ethical culture but high level management completely disregards the ethics training and worries more about dollar numbers and schedule than a quality product at times.
    5. With the Government Defense Budget cut, Sikorsky will have to find many new innovative ways to keep their doors open if they get spun off on their own. Foreign Military Sales will only last so long and there isn't a big commercial helicopter market to be sustainable.

    Advice to Management

    1. Abide by the Process/Producer Guidelines that the company gives out.
    2. Look for ways to help advance interested employees for more responsibilities.
    3. Set mentorship programs for new college grads.
    4. Stop leaving employees in the dark when it comes to company future outlook. No communication from high level management will only lead to rumors and more people jumping ship.

    Pros

Education completely paid for, very knowledgeable employees, and ease of movement within the company.

    Cons

High turnover rate, large amounts of layoffs, inconsistent raises, high stress depending on what group your in. Employees are not taken care of and management doesn't communicate well, nor listen to employees about concerns. People don't want to escalate problems they just leave.

    Advice to Management

Be fair to everyone. High turn around means constant training of new employees. Means company doesn't make money during that time. Telling everyone 1400 people will be laid off doesn't help feel secured. Shouldn't feel that way any way when it appears normal that we have either furlough days every year and/or layoffs.

    Pros

Sikorsky is a leading helicopter manufacturer. The work is rewarding at times but there is a lot of "hurrying up to wait" which makes the job boring at times.

    Cons

Uncertain future means a lot of people are jumping ship. Stress level is high depending on your program and will only get higher the more people leave.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent! We all know the shareholders come first but at the end of the day what are you without the employees feeling like they matter?

    Pros

Sikorsky has been a great place to work for me. The company has always treated me well, and supports a quality of life culture. Everyone has the opportunity for advancement. Company has a lot to offer hard working individuals.

    Cons

Geographically, the company is in a bad location for me, although your mileage may vary. No pun intended.

Just a note: Medical benefits is a scam, but that's everywhere you work these days. The ridiculous cost of medical services is not the fault of Sikorsky.

    Advice to Management

Ditch the ridiculous expensive holiday bash and share the money with everyone. The bash is 45 minutes away from the company...what about those that live in the opposite direction. Bring back the old barbeque at the company, which was always very nice. and economically more sensible. Cut us all a check or gift card for the remaining money we save.
