I worked at Sikorsky (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fantastic Product. Employees care about impact to our military. Veterans understand the needs of the customer and will do what is necessary to make it right.

    Cons

Limited Merit increases. Union is too strong and there are too many employees who do not care and should no longer be working on the aircraft.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your experienced employees. Stop over committing to customer regarding price and schedule to deliver aircraft. You destroy credibility.

I worked at Sikorsky (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good company to work for.

    Cons

Don't know how that will make a good fit with Lockheed Martin.

I have been working at Sikorsky full-time

    Pros

Great opportunity to work in the aviation field and be a part of the next generation of helicopters. They have many different areas to work in from assembly, to machining and blade manufacturing which all have different skill set to perform the task.

    Cons

A lot of levels of management. Not to many cons they pay decently and there are different opportunities within the company

I have been working at Sikorsky full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You won't find a more interesting industry than aerospace. Company & products will be around for a long time. An acquisition by Lockheed means opportunity to transfer to other jobs around the country.

    Cons

Easy to lose sight of the cool product when you're stuck in layers of red tape and middle management. Seems like most people either leave after 5 years or are lifers.

    Advice to Management

Need to find a middle ground between micromanagement and lack of management. Encourage people to try new ideas instead of dragging heels and embracing the status quo.

I worked at Sikorsky (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Problems were interesting and the work was challenging. They were lenient on time off and the pay was decent.

    Cons

Some of the problems I faced were that there was a huge disconnect with middle management and the workers beneath them.

I have been working at Sikorsky full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Having been a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp, the pay and benefits have been the best I have had. An Employee Scholar Program that pays 100% of your tuition and books for going back to school is one of the best perks.

    Cons

Management is currently in a state of upheaval. There are many meetings that MGMT level employees attend, and many communications to the rest of us about how things are so great and getting better, but nothing seems to get done. There are so many classes that need to be taken, so much need to make every department look like all the rest in the company, that jobs don't get done.

    Advice to Management

A new era is upon us; so many great things we can make happen. Cut the overhead management level down and let the employees, A) know just how much this company depends on them, and B) do their jobs.
