Review Highlights

Pros
  • Sikorsky (and UTC) creates a learning culture and puts their money behind it with a very generous Employee Scholar Program (in 20 reviews)

  • I have been told that the Employee Scholar Program and stock award program has been limited lately (in 18 reviews)

Cons
  • Work-life balance: is always on the horizon; there seems an innate inability to eliminate bureaucracy (in 10 reviews)

  • Pay raises are very poor and no adjustment for cost of living (in 7 reviews)

I have been working at Sikorsky

    Pros

Decent location of merrit, will learn a lot, big company/corporate experience, week off during Xmas break, benefits are decent, awesome product and never gets old to look at

    Cons

Old school boys club not the best place for women especially if you don't look or resemble a man yourself

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retire or be open to new ways of doing business

I worked at Sikorsky full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people to work with, great benefits, challenging and fulfilling work, no micromanaging, decent work/life balance for the most part, pay is good

    Cons

High turnover in management, quite a bit of mandatory overtime, working the first five OT hours for free, often understaffed, senior level employees getting paid much more than entry level for doing the same job or with less responsibilities

I worked at Sikorsky full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Only worked a 40 hour week.

    Cons

Benefits are terrible. Management is focused on micromanaging and throwing everything into the ACE (Six Sigma) Bucket. Management raises come out of the same raise pool as their employees. After 2 years, thanks to furlough, I was making less than I started. There is no clear path to advancement. The customer comes second. Lieing and cheating will get you ahead faster than hard honest work. Management will take credit for all your successes and throw you under the bus for any failures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut back on the ACE activities. Have less metrics, less power point. Be more honest with employees.

I worked at Sikorsky full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great product, resources, and talented employees

    Cons

If you work in a staff position where you frequently interact with executives, then the sad reality of the company and what it is really about will be both surprising and frustrating. H.R. allows executives to act above the law and turns a blind eye to their many indiscretions unless someone goes public with a complaint. Ethics is a joke. Metrics are falsified and improperly reported to Wall Street. If you say anything to leadership and attempt to do the right thing, then your career is over. Leaving Sikorsky is the most honorable career move that I have ever made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up! Your L3's and L2's are destroying the moral fabric of the company. This used to be a great company for which to work. Now it's an embarrassment. So many of your employees are miserable and are worried about being laid off. Not a fun place to work right now.

I worked at Sikorsky full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent pay. When I was allowed to do my job correctly it was interesting work.

    Cons

Huge, huge ripoff of the tax payers of America!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start worring about producing a quality product efficiently instead of climbing the corporate ladder and CYAing!

I have been working at Sikorsky

    Pros

    Good benefits and entry-level training

    Cons

Too much red tape. Takes too long for processes to get going. Disconnectivity amongst lowerand higher layers of the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep good people when you have a chance to and provide more support to employees at business units.

I have been working at Sikorsky full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Average pay and benefits
Opportunities to learn skills and work on interesting products
Leadership seems interested in improving the company

    Cons

I always have the feeling that I would be easily replaced. Its a large company and doesn't care about any one individual. Its difficult to justify putting much energy into the job. Pay is based on years on the job rather than skill or effort.
