    Great career growth opportunities

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFor those who are hard-working and put forth the effort, there are opportunities for career growth. Talented group of people to work with. I'm very pleased with the decision I made years ago to work at this Company.

ConsI don't know of any cons.

    Hostile corporate takeover

Process Engineer (Current Employee) Kingsport, TN

ProsWhen it was Portola Packaging, there were plenty of good things to say, but after the takeover, not anymore.

ConsIncompetent senior leadership, Corporate staff will not look you in the eye. Very dismissive of personal life, and you are expected to serve the company and company alone. Naive and Childish HR department.

Advice to Senior ManagementForget about it, they are self made geniuses.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    It was a decent experience.

End Sorter (Former Employee) Rochelle, IL

    ProsGreat pay. Room to grow.

    ConsLong hours. 12 hour shifts.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should be a little bit more involved with bottom employees, and also reward and/or show appreciation for hard work and accomplishments to improve employee morale and productivity in the work place.

One of the worst places to work for. Only the Corporate Flagship factory in Short Hills, CA, has anything good to say

No Thanks (Current Employee) Edison, NJ

ProsPay for senior employees, takes 5 years to get to 100% pay. You start at 70% and no pension.

ConsSupervisors are taught to be hostile, actual classes. They are trying to break the union. They are writing hundreds of write ups in my plant alone, so that they can get rid of the people who make 100% pay and that have pensions, and vacation time. This will save the Corporation money, now and down the road. They want to hire 70% workers for the first 5 years and no pension just 401k. They have wrote hundreds of procedures and this is how they are going to fire you. They are treating employees so bad that they actually put up signs stating no Firearms in Plant. You cannot use your cell phone, take pictures, record any audio, they don't want you to leave the building even though you don't get paid for lunch, and they have camera's that they claim are for security, you know like watching you go to the lunch room, or bathroom. Basically folks, don't come here we are under total lock down, and they don't want the outside world to know. They are willing to break the law, if it means saving money.

    Good company

Production Supervisor (Current Employee) Lyons, NY

ProsProduction management training program great place to start your operations career. Financially stable company. Company tends to perform well in a good and poor economy. Lots of opportunity for growth.

ConsDepends on the plant you work at because they all have their own culture. Long hours and many weekends worked without comp days. Medical insurance is terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall management is not perfect but does a good job.

Career progression is like standing in quick sand.

Production Supervisor/Management Trainee (Former Employee) Toppenish, WA

ProsSilgan has several locations you can work in if you are willing to live in less than desirable cities.

ConsVery hostile to workers with families. Plant upper management talk the talk when visitors from headquarters arrive and then ignore company directives after visitors leave. Front office affairs are allowed and it creates very uneasy work environment. No support from upper management. Floor personnel are more informed than Supervisors. Project management is done with cowboy engineering, which end up costing twice as much money.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook in to why a plant has 11 Management Trainees hired in 4 years and only one is still there. There might be something wrong happening.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
