Pros
Innovative company with very talented engineering team. The company is not as innovative as it once was, but still has good memory system architecture.
Cons
Management made poor decisions during the late 1990's that hurt the company for the next decade. It remains to be seen if a turnaround can be achieved after the acquisition by Rackable.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the engineering team challenged with new innovations. Avoid commodity technology. Focus on memory system technology and large scale data processing.
Pros
Great teams, real nice people, good work life balance
Cons
compensation is sub par
company is not doing that great financially
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on products that make money. Improve Margins. Rethink long term strategy
Pros
Good people
company finally making money
Offices for most engineers
Pretty much make your own work schedule
Cons
Work lots of hours
Understaffed
Many layoffs
benefits are below average
Advice to Senior Management
Hire back some of the folks you laid off over the past couple of years. Better benefit package.
Pros
Work is interesting, and great work-life balance.
Cons
Lack of professional growth/career advancement opportunities
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in the employees
Pros
technology and the industry that SGI covered
Cons
the australian team is not doing justice to the rest of AP office. They should "listen" more rather than making call based on baseless experience that they had
Advice to Senior Management
go to the filed and understand better what is happening
Pros
If you're technical, this might be a good place to work.
Cons
Company has no strategy and no ability of self learning, work-life-balance is very poor.
Pros
Experience with highly technical teams all working in solving the planet's most demanding and complex problems from the following disciplines: finance, internet, oil and gas, automotive, manufacturing and government.
Cons
The new SGI is a young agile startup company with perceptions of being an old dinosaur. Call it as you see us but the new SGI is here to stay and we are proving everyone wrong that although the perception of us being old we are sleek and agile in our technical computing solutions.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to what others may say about how slow or old SGI is (and why that is) and dwell on the opportunity to make changes to better the perception of this great company. As we improve on our perception success and increase revenues will follow.
Pros
SGI was a great place to work once upon a time. The web of SGI alumni is phenomenal. Too bad Rick Belluzo tanked the company and it never recovered.
Cons
SGI's biggest challenge was its financial stability and its ability to be relevant as other technology got 'good enough'. The company couldn't figure out how to make the business model work.
Advice to Senior Management
work on the finanical model
Pros
flex schedule. good managers. easy going co-workers.
Cons
operation overhead is too high.
Advice to Senior Management
none.
Pros
SGI is a great place to work if you like to be on the edge of supercomputing. There are very bright people aboard and the atmosphere is good.
Cons
Little opportunities for career development and personal growth due to financial situation. Senior management has been bad, but this has improved after the acquisition by Rackable Systems.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees and give them more opportunities for development and growth. HR is very weak and unresponsive. Employees have suffered a lot during the past years, now it is has become payback time.
