I have been working at Silicon Valley Bank full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Working at SVB has been one of the best decisions in my professional career. I am challenged everyday and have the opportunity to help some of the most innovative companies in the world move forward. The collaborative culture and excellent benefits are just some of the amazing perks at SVB.

    Cons

The on-boarding process can be like "drinking from a fire hose" but other than that and the occasional need to figure out some processes on your own it is a a fantastic environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please don't change this place and stay true to what makes SVB a wonderful place to come every day.

I worked at Silicon Valley Bank as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly, helpful, knowledgable people. Work day went by quickly because my coworkers were so enjoyable to be around. People stick around for a long, long time because it's such a great place to come into work.

    Cons

Did not receive a lot of feedback

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would really be worthwhile to invest in more up-to-date software, and to make our own site easier for clients.

    Pros

    Dedicated senior managers
    Great culture and values

    Global business

    Cons

IT challenged to keep up with bank growth
Sales team paid by commission = bad habits
Fast changing environment - need to be even more nimble

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think differently about IT - adopt a new cloud based flexible/easy to customise platform and ditch old ASAP

I have been working at Silicon Valley Bank full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong, collaborative/team oriented culture; management has good strategic focus/objectives; strong benefit package; ability to move around to different roles internally; work/life balance

    Cons

Visibility around employee compensation relative to competitors; can be overly slow to make big decisions; minor growing pains (real estate challenges, hiring strategy) as bank continues to rapidly scale

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to promote from within, proactively take care of "best people" through empowerment, compensation and attention from highest levels in organization.

*an amazing bank, working with amazing clients who strive to do amazing things

    Cons

I worked at Silicon Valley Bank full-time

    Pros

SVB has great product, most innovative debt financing portfolios, and has a lot do focus on pay for performance.

    Cons

The CIO is able to say all the Buzz words (culture, transformation, game changing) without any substances or depth. If you are looking for a broken recorder than repeats what's wrong but doesn't have strategy nor ability to rally the team to fix them, you got the right lady. IT spending is at all time high, so much money wasted with no result. Surprisingly I year after being part of IT, she can still talk about IT issues as if she is an outsider. Absolutely no demonstration of ownership nor accountability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you don't want SVB drags down by her like California did during Arnols S' regime, it is not too late to recall.

    Pros

The company atmosphere was very fun and the people are interesting and easy to work with. Everyone was willing to help and answer my questions. I participated in a lot of out of office activities and community service. It was an overall great experience

    Cons

Sometimes a little boring, but I think this was because they are slow in the summer.
