Pros – Financially fit and stable, excellent health benefits for certificated staff, smaller class sizes, you won't get pink slipped, worth the drive to the valley locations once you get used to it, this is a district where you have more potential to stay long term and be successful if you choose to.
Cons – Unless you live in Barstow, prepare for a long commute. People who work at the fort (Ft. Irwin) get burnt out by the long drive. There is a high turn-over at the fort and for admin., there isn't much to do in the area (rural desert). Other teachers at certain schools can be very critical and nosy (at some point you will be talked about behind your back). HR can also be messy and difficult to deal with sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management – Work on handling concerns/disputes among staff members better. Encourage staff to get along and not gossip; one piece of news spreads like wildfire in a place where everyone knows everyone and their business.

Pros – Good salary and benefits for teachers. Students know every teacher and teachers know nearly every student (particularly if teaching a core subject).
Cons – Administration politics can become problematic, though the turnover for principals is high so wait it out.... Also, Barstow CA is not a very convenient place to be. There is not much to do in the way of activities - unless you like dirt biking and shooting, and though it's halfway between the beach and Las Vegas, it's too far from each to really be worthwhile. Also, a high student turnover due to military families makes teaching a bit more challenging sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management – The teachers are the front line; support them!
