Current Employee – been working at Silverado Senior Living full-time for more than a year
Pros – Philosophy, what the company provides to the ALZ/Dementia/Memory Care geriatric population is beyond helping, it's life changing. The company is in growth mode!
Cons – The benefits are very expensive, and the 401k match is not good. The company is still a little behind the times with how they operate. It's difficult to change a mindset from a small/mom-pop company to a dynamic fortune 100 company.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Silverado Senior Living full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great company philosophy, at the time I was there great people, CEO/Founders with vision, allows pets at the work place.
Cons – Raises are minimal if non existent, turnover seemed high, they have expanded rapidly in the last 5 years and I'm not sure how the company has dealt with the growth, they were known for their warm corporate culture.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to complaints of employees

Former Employee – worked at Silverado Senior Living
Pros – Families and residents are wonderful. Some of your coworkers are great
Cons – Management doesn't have realistic views of the job they expect to be completed. They bring in more residents but fail to hire more caregivers. Caregivers treated like they are expendable. Family members of residents fight for caregivers but are ignored if they don't threaten to move out. Expect nurses to work overtime of the clock. Hard worker beware only people who brown nose get real raises the rest get pocket change. New hires make more than caregivers hired 10 years prior. raises are usually between 10-50 cents...you will never get 50 cents though. Liked CEO until recently seems even he is going against his own mission statement.
Advice to Senior Management – LOVE before fear. nobody should be treated like caregivers get treated at this place. They are the backbone on which this company survives. A few communities need new administration, get on that all the good caregivers and nurses who haven't left are looking for new jobs.

Current Employee – been working at Silverado Senior Living full-time for more than a year
Pros – understanding cooperative management, team work, good work environment, positive attitude rewarded, residents treated well, in services for how to do a better job with residents, tools available to do your job
Cons – salary compensation low but matches most other places for caregiver, (they should lead in provisions for caregivers- goes along with their mission statement to be different) no company paid health insurance, longevity with company should be rewarded, (there would be less and less turnover)
Advice to Senior Management – should have some pay raise incentives or stair stepping available for caregivers, nurses have this, the core of the business is provided by caregivers and they are the least paid.(hence there is a large turnover of caregivers, good ones have to eventually leave to find better pay)

Former Employee – worked at Silverado Senior Living full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Silverado communities are very good for residents.
Great place to work until 2011 when company sold...finest people anywhere. Rightfully won awards.
Company's philosophy is Love is Greater than Fear
Cons – With one or two exceptions, all the great people are gone from the corporate office.
The executives are having a very serious problem finding and keeping anyone in leadership positions because some new managers are very controlling and old managers are afraid.
Sadly, "Love is Greater than Fear" is now bogus.
HR is unsympathetic - even to the point of betrayal - to good, long-term, trusting employees.
Advice to Senior Management – Admit you recently made some big mistakes, get rid of the bad guys and get your company back on track to the big success it was before you sold it.

Former Employee – worked at Silverado Senior Living full-time for more than a year
Pros – The residents are the reason you work there. The smiles on their faces and the love they reciprocate towards you is the best feeling! It doesn't feel like work when you're spending time with people you love.
Cons – The senior administrator is cold, unfriendly, unapproachable, intimidating, and never smiles. Not the qualities you would expect from someone in such a position. The management really does not demonstrate appreciation for the hard work you do. That appreciation comes from the residents and their families.
Advice to Senior Management – I would advise the management to concentrate on their community, instead of sending half the management teams to help out other Silverados.

Current Employee – been working at Silverado Senior Living full-time for less than a year
Pros – This company has the best memory care program in the world, their executives care about the mission, employees, and residents, patients and clients. The company is rapidly expanding with lots of area of growth and potential for employees. We give LIFE to those we serve.
Cons – As with all companies, cost of benefits and actual benefits could be less expensive or better quality.

Former Employee – worked at Silverado Senior Living
Pros – Autonomy
Colleagues are great
Excellent corporate training
Cons – Poor local training
Management had archaic strategies
Management gossips
Company seems to lay off or fire people who are over 40 years old
Management relies on employee to train their replacement prior to being fired or laid off
Few reviews if any; I was never given a review
Advice to Senior Management – Mr. Shook you may want to send in an undercover boss to determine the "real" knowledge level of local managers. In my opinion it is unethical to request an employee to "train" their replacement with no knowledge that they were about to be terminated. I saw this happen in all divisions of the organization including the corporate offices. Unfortunately the few long timers are quite capable of discrediting an employee just prior to termination.

Current Employee – been working at Silverado Senior Living
Pros – Abilty to trade shifts with other caregivers in order to get time off.
Cons – Upper management and management aren't very nice to caregivers. They dont even have the decency to say hello to the caregivers who work so hard for them. I walked by one director and was going to say hello, but she looked at me and quickly looked away.
Advice to Senior Management – Mgmt should hold meetings and first ask for caregivers input prior to making changes on how things are done. Mgmt comes and observes for about 5 minutes every six months and then makes changes on how we do things. They should ask for our input because we caregivers are doing our jobs everyday and we know what works best and what doesn't work. Every day that we come to work, there is a new rule and a change on how things are done. The people who run the place appear to be inexperienced at running a facility.

Current Employee – been working at Silverado Senior Living
Pros – This is great company to work for. The management listen to your ideas and opinions. They have always been generous with praise and helped me fit work into my school schedule.
Cons – Sometimes expectations can be unclear. But usually this is resolved easily and the management are very open to feedback about this.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep on being great and make sure that you are giving very specific feedback. But be careful not to micromanage.
