Pros
Simmons is a large company which operates with a very lean structure similar to a start up. One can have a direct effect on the bottom line and growth of the company.
Cons
At Simmons hard work goin above and beyond normal duties often goes unrecognized and Simmons is comittted to paying just below the averge wages.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior managment at Simmons should envest more in its people and training on the operations side to continue to grow.
Pros
Great product Beautyrest, ComforPedic etc.
Decent pay if you hit your bonuses.
Great distribution base for product lines.
Competitive advantages over competition with the solid history and products.
Cons
All downsides of working in sales for Simmons come from the management of the Mountain Central District. So if you are working in other districts it could be a great job. If you are unlucky enough to be in the MCD then get ready to have no leadership, all accountability with no objective views to things within your realm of influence. You will get no credit, no respect and no help.
Advice to Senior Management
I recommend that if you want to stop losing good people and replacing them with people that have no experience. Then a hard look should be taken at the power and control that are given to the VP over the districts, where they are making decisions that are not in the best interest of the Simmons company or their retailers on any level.
Pros
-Work environment
-Great Coworkers
-Early Fridays
-Average Benefits
Cons
-Upper Management
-Pay, Job stability
-Good Old Boy Mentality
Advice to Senior Management
Stop being so cheap and treat talent better.
Pros
A very good paying job
There is decent job security
Room for advancement
The 401K matching is very good
Overtime available a lot
Cons
Management isn't always on the same page with others
Communication needs to be improved
Health benefits are not as good as they were in the past
Advice to Senior Management
There definitely needs to be more communication among managers. This is especially true between the two shifts. Sometimes if feels like first and second shift are run by two different companies and operate by two sets of rules.
Pros
Great products. Professional and quality staff.
Cons
Medical Benefits were cut off the very next day after a downsizing. This statement speaks for itself.
Great product but marketing is terrible.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve the advertising of the product.
Pros
Innovative company of quality mattresses. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable.
Cons
Feels like a teachers pet environment. If you don't know the right people you will never advance in the company. Still part of the "good old boys" club and women do not make it into leadership roles. No loyalty for your time of service or dedication for the job. Must do a lot of butt kissing here.
Advice to Senior Management
HR should investigate matters further and not just go on a manager's word. Get rid of the guys that have been around too long and have tunnel vision. Hire new leadership with the ability to actually execute a vision or plan!
Pros
Simmons manufactures quality mattresses that appeal to consumers. The employees work for Simmons are quality people and individuals are empowered to make decisions.
Cons
Company in financial trouble resulting in decreased manufacturing sites and several workforce reductions in all areas. As it is a privatley held company, it is difficult to know how the company is faring in this economy.
Advice to Senior Management
Performance reviews should be based on facts, not one manager's opinion. 360 degree reviews are used effectively at many companies.
