I have been working at Singapore Pools ltd

    Pros

The job in there are quite relaxing, stress less, easy, able to read books and training provided. Colleagues are very helpful if you encounter any problems.

    Cons

The pay are peanuts and do not have any career advancement. Break time is fix and short. Can't move around too have to stay in your own places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For the upper management staff, they need to experience those front line staff on how the working conditions and experience is about.

I worked at Singapore Pools ltd

    Pros

It'd be good if you have a good boss to provide guidance and being supportive towards the work that are on hand. Office environment is acceptable. Good experience to explore and meet the different views of the employees.

    Cons

Work-life balance could be an issue due to the heavy workload at times. Colleagues will try and protect themselves from additional workload or when trouble arises. Mix with the wrong group of people and you might find yourself at the edge of the mountain top. Inflexibility in certain work procedures results in wastage of time instead of improving work efficiency. Will be expected to produce top quality work while company uses stone-age technology - LotusNotes, Office 2000.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should be more supportive and appreciative in terms of the work presented by employees. Suggestions should be taken into consideration. Traditional and top-down management culture should be revamped.

I have been working at Singapore Pools ltd

    Pros

If you are looking for good pay and benefits like 21 days leave and paid childcare leave, look no further. Colleagues are pretty decent as no backstabbing politics within the same dept.

    Cons

Biggest problem is inter-dept relationship is akin to a war-zone. If you are in a dept that's not influential, good luck to you for very soon you'll find that you have to do lots of work that is being mandated by another dept who has the upper hand in politics. Your own superior can't help or defend you. Lots of mundane and unnecessary work being done in the graveyard hours, during weekends or holidays 'cos the other dept is simply not resolving those problems and they push it to you to do work-arounds since it's mission-critical. Management also do not bother about hiring extra head-counts even though the company can well afford it.

Second problem is that technological adoption is very slow. You don't learn something ground-breaking while working here though of course it can be a plus point for people who are just here for the dough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give off-days for work done during off-office hours without employees asking for it as it's deemed basic courtesy. When hiring, please indicate clearly the level of committed support you demand from new hires. For instance, if job requirement is 24*7 support, please indicate upfront and not wait until the person is hired and break the news to him/her that it's a 24*7 job. Most importantly, don't assume. Everyone comes from a myriad of different backgrounds and companies.
