I worked at Singtel as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

It has a very strong HR policy that favours non-management staff. Ultimately its the working level that makes SingTel successful. There is a lot of development programs and benefits. Its a very working level oriented organization and lots of flexibility in terms of time off etc. This is of course comes with a 10-15 hour work day, depending on what level you are at. It pays relatively well and

    Cons

Its a run rate business, even though it tries to innovate. Ultimately it is reselling a lot of its stuff. If you are just wanting a job, then its fine. But if you want to grow, its more than just numbers as its a run rate... business just would drop from the sky due to the brand name (hence the reason for its high rates). You will not see much creative growth nor strategic capabilities over the long term of your career as you will just be doing "on the mill" roles even as a graduate. The top down culture, impedes its growth...hence the reason why the digital life fails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to look at innovation and create value adds then short cut revenue retention tactics. Also cut the BS politics and be focus to developing the organization below the next 3- 5 years.

I worked at Singtel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Central location (near orchard area).
    Bonus payout .
Staff rates and plans for mobile, broadband and cable tv.

    Cons

    Low starting salary.
    Tons of re-org and re-shuffling.
Very difficult to get the job done.
Retirement place for a lot of old timers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's difficult to try and change the co. culture after so long...plan out what you want to be. It's damaging for employees who want to work for a fast-moving company to find out it's otherwise.

I have been working at Singtel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Brand name is ok. Nothing else

    Cons

Working environment is horrible. Bosses here think it's their right to yell at juniors/colleagues as a way out of their emotions and they are not willing to guide or help juniors. Overall the corporate culture is not good and they can tolerate rude people. Take it very personally and no respect of employees. Work system is very outdated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Please respect your employees.

I worked at Singtel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good colleagues, who are really trying to make something out of their job.

    Cons

    - horrible politics. Managemnt seemed more intent on looking for someone to blame when things go wrong, then to fix underlying problems. Yelling and screaming is an acceptable way for bosses. Pleasing your bosses and to be blue-eye boy/girl is the gurantee way to get good ratings and bonuses.
    - hr policies not well thought through and sucks at explaining to staff. Dont think they really care about employees. Appeared to put a lot of emphasis to win awards.
    - bureacracy. sigh, worst than stat boards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop showing there is a very clear class difference between Top Managemnt and the rest, and dont just stay in the ivory towers in Comcentre1. the peoples are the one who worked hard for Singtel to be number one. Do show more care and concern, they are not just worker bees.

I worked at Singtel part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good and friendly supervisor that give allowance for lunch breaks, temp staff common, range of nationalities which gives diversity to the place.

    Cons

Old outdated computers running on windows 95, many inefficiencies in the data entry system that makes duplicated effort common.

I worked at Singtel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Family oriented culture, great benefits, opportunities to explore various career path, stable industry

    Cons

Due to the nature of the industry the Company is in, re-organisation is often required. However, the management seem to over-look that certain process and system are legacy and might not be readily changed, resulting in additional work for the back-end support.

I have been working at Singtel full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Stability is the keyword here. Its akin to an iron ricebowl and there is no risk of getting fired unless you have done something terribly wrong.

    Cons

Pay is not commensurate with market standards, and basic pay can be much lower than competitors. Too much workload as customers come to you instead of you going to them. There is NO WORK LIFE BALANCE. If you wish to spend 75% of your waking hours doing work and clearing non stop emails, this is the place for you! You are bogged by emails even when going on leave so you can never truly have any rest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to understand what the emplyees are really experiencing on a day to day basis. Really listen to what they have to say and do something about it to alleviate their unrealistic workload.

I have been working at Singtel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of learning opportunities. Competitive spirit means that company performs consistently which translates to consistent AWS and bonus payout and no cost cutting measures that affect employee welfare.
    Higher management works really hard.

    Cons

Management squeeze the most from you - also depends on department. If you can cope then the experience gained will boost your market value as an employee.
Climbing the corporate ladder here means you job scope and what is expected from you rise exponentially.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It can be demoralising to know that the chances of a second promo in 2 years is next to 0.
