I worked at SiriusXM part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Fun, friendly environment. Great learning experience. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

No pay or even a stipend for food or travel. Be prepared to spend if you are a commuter. Tedious work at times.

    Pros

It's a job! Nice people and it helps to work somewhere you can be proud of the product.

    Cons

Executive and director level employees are too "busy" or "important" to take time to listen to good ideas from lower level employees. In other cases, senior level people take credit for hard work that their staff does then passes the buck if something goes wrong. You will not be mentored nor encouraged to mentor others.

I have been working at SiriusXM full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The best and brightest in U.S. radio resides here.

    Cons

SEVERE lack of upward mobility. Company progresses at a very slow pace. Stock is shorted more than any other on the stock market, resulting in stock option awards being worth very little.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a braintrust of non-executives. Listen to them. Believe it or not, they may have good or better ideas to be considered by the board and executive team.

I worked at SiriusXM as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Management and HR are really nice. Laid back atmosphere. Free beverages in the kitchen. Great brand name for resumes.

    Cons

Unpaid internship. No reimbursements for expenses. Can be some down days where you don't do much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you don't pay your interns, at least reimburse then for travel and food. People will work harder if you do!

I worked at SiriusXM as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Stylish office, great product, managers care about their employees

    Cons

There's no sense of motivation or meaning on a larger scale. Everyone keeps their head down and you're left to find your own reasons to keep going.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the interns get to know each other across departments.

I worked at SiriusXM part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

You can literally walk down the halls, drinking free starbucks, and walk past 25 different stations. If you're a radio nerd, then you'll be in love. The building is so cool plus sometimes you get to walk past celebrities randomly...Most of the staff there are pretty awesome and open...managers, I may have only encountered the good ones, but were always receptive to questions and concerns...You don't have corporate breathing down your neck.

    Cons

Very few Full-Time jobs. Pay is typically less than you would like and most of the time set-in-stone. Most of the FT positions are taken, and people tend to stay forever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

offer more incentives to your employees. Change up the pretzels. Have room for advancement

    Pros

Hmmm... free XM radio and the occasional celebrity sighting. The office was very open and though they were cubes, it's wasn't a cube farm.

    Cons

Everything changed for the worse after the merger.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put some of the fun back into the work.

I worked at SiriusXM as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

You are treated like a true employee. You won't find interns fetching coffee or being ignored! Although your intern experience may vary by department, you really are treated like royalty, as well as given assignments that significantly contribute to the company,

    Cons

Easy to get lost in a sea of interns and employees, but the positive outweighed the negative.

I worked at SiriusXM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There's an exciting energy as soon as you walk into the SiriusXM offices in Manhattan -- this is a company unlike any other. You are surrounded by talent, both who work there or who are there to appear on one of the countless programs and stations found on Sirius' dial.

    Cons

"Well...this is radio. It doesn't pay well." That was what I was told by an HR representative when I was made my offer to come work for the company. I ended up taking the job since the process of getting the gig took so long anyway, but from day one, I felt very undervalued. Red tape seems to be the name of the game with management - things just do NOT get done in a timely fashion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Free soda and pretzels are nice, but the greatest perk of all is a salary that makes a person feel wanted.
