I worked at SiriusXM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There's an exciting energy as soon as you walk into the SiriusXM offices in Manhattan -- this is a company unlike any other. You are surrounded by talent, both who work there or who are there to appear on one of the countless programs and stations found on Sirius' dial.

    Cons

"Well...this is radio. It doesn't pay well." That was what I was told by an HR representative when I was made my offer to come work for the company. I ended up taking the job since the process of getting the gig took so long anyway, but from day one, I felt very undervalued. Red tape seems to be the name of the game with management - things just do NOT get done in a timely fashion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Free soda and pretzels are nice, but the greatest perk of all is a salary that makes a person feel wanted.

I worked at SiriusXM as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

You are treated like a true employee. You won't find interns fetching coffee or being ignored! Although your intern experience may vary by department, you really are treated like royalty, as well as given assignments that significantly contribute to the company,

    Cons

Easy to get lost in a sea of interns and employees, but the positive outweighed the negative.

    Pros

Got to meet a lot of celebrities, and gained a good amount of experience.

    Cons

Very unlikely to get a full time job - the company clearly does not make a ton of money anymore.

I have been working at SiriusXM part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Convenient office location
    Excellent facilities
    Quiet atmosphere

    Cons

Subversive, adversarial work culture - many are still bitter from layoffs after SIrius and XM merger
    No sense of camaraderie
    Virtually no room for advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your part-time employees make a large share of the workforce in the DC headquarters. Engage them and develop to become valuable talent within the organization. The place is full with middle managers who couldn't care less who is working for them week to week, so long as the place is staffed.

I worked at SiriusXM full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's a virtual smorgasbord of people. You get to meet and socialize with every background and your talents are noticed rather quickly. They offer hot coffee, tea & cocoa all day free for staff. Very relaxed atmosphere.

    Cons

Parking for the staff, the open floor plan, travel between the buildings and building security. Still thought it was too easy for people to get in and wonder around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't really have any comments or advice for upper management. Maybe watch your mid-level managers. Some of them spent too much time with their feet up for the money they made.

I worked at SiriusXM as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

As an intern I had a great mentor, always willing to teach, kept me in the loop, bought me lunch which came in handy since internships are unpaid, I learned so much about the industry and editing audio, the atmosphere was friendly and laid back

    Cons

lots of egos here and "politics", creativity can be somewhat limited, didn't look like there was much room for advancing within the company, people in management roles have been there for 8-10 years and it doesn't look like it's changing any time soon, (not on the creative side anyway...the business side might have more luck)
