Pros
Great, strong culture. Very low turnover.
Cons
Strong religious affiliation. A pro for some, but can be uncomfortable at times.
Pros
You can work with some of the best nurses ever
Cons
Really don't do anything for nurses at the bedside.
Cut incentives and raises but build mulit million dollar new facilities.
upper management is not trained appropriately.
no reason to stay here other than my friends
Advice to Senior Management
listen to the people in the trenches everyday and stop running this place like a corporation marketing positive messages to patients but treating your staff horrible.
Pros
Mercy has a wonderful mission and is dedicated to serving patients. They are very innovative in their technologies and business strategies.
Cons
Mercy struggles with developing their people. They need to focus on management training. There are numerous programs available to improve the way they interact with and relate their coworkers. Mercy needs to realize their greatest resource isn't Epic or a new Data Center but the people who make those things possible.
Advice to Senior Management
A strong OD department would be very beneficial to Sisters because they have a lot of things going for them and they could really reap even greater rewards in creating more engaged and productive coworkers.
Pros
A caring place and good for the community. Mid level managers and directors are caring and dedicated. Pay and benefits are average.
Cons
Poor upper level management. Company seems to foster a somewhat discriminatory hiring/promoting process. PRN employees not given adequate notification when not needed. High turnover rate because of a lack of communication regarding opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop a better system of communicating job openings to retain key employees. Training has improved but still needs work.
Pros
Overall mission is outstanding and something to be proud to be a part of.
Cons
HR is terrible and walks the line of what is legal and what is not frequently... stepping right over it when pushed by management.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn employment laws and maybe it will help you treat your co-workers better.
Pros
They do try to focus on human values
Deptending on dept. - many are good about working with employees who need time off or alternate arrangements
If you have skills that are valuable, they are likely to keep you
Because it is a growing organization, there is a chance to provide input into how to do things
Cons
Growing pains, compounded by touch economic times create a fairly chaotic work environment, with a lot of change and not a lot of processes in place
Surprising level of bad (negative, angry, etc.) behavior tolerated from some management level employees (given the non-profit humanitarian values posted)
Lack of a clear vision from upper management
Advice to Senior Management
Please, please, think about the impact to people's lives from the decisions that are made
Provide us with a clear vision of where the company is going, so we can help you get there
Pros
Friendly people and good work life balance. If you like rapid change it might be a good place for you.
Cons
Don't expect to get rich working for a non profit.
Advice to Senior Management
Would help to share the breakdown of the financials with the departments. Would be nice to know how the work we do translates to the bottom line.
Pros
The nurses are dedicated to providing the best possible outcomes for their patients and provide a caring atmosphere with support systems available.
Cons
The claims system is outdated and upgrades are needed for QNXT, which haven't been done on a regular basis, particularly for Provider information.
Advice to Senior Management
Better equipment and IS services are needed in order to effectively manage the members and their needs. Better guidance on the company outlook would be beneficial.
Pros
Good hardworking people, laid back environment (sometimes), flex hours, Faith based.
Cons
Management doesn’t understand how to organize, manage, promote, and tell the truth. The insurance is the worst and most aggravating, compared to companies I’ve worked for in the past. Mercy owns Mercy Health Plans but they offer the worst plan to their employees. You would think it would be the best plan since they own the insurance company.
It’s hard to get a promotion no matter how hard you work. I’ve been here for eight years and receive praise for my work every month but never a promotion. Raises are terrible. Management is fake well most of them and should not be in the field and/or in management.
Advice to Senior Management
Since the employees are leaving because of management, I recommend replacing management and promote the people who deserve it.
Pros
Unique environment that is focused on the needs of our patients first and how to best serve them and the communities that we are a part of.
Cons
Sisters of Mercy is a segmented organization that is managed at at regional level. There can be major differences between the regions which leads to a lack of continuity of management and direction.
Advice to Senior Management
The organizational structure seems to be too complex and that having the regions act as separate units seems to hurt the organizations overall mission statement.
