The worst company to work for!!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Prosgood discount on shoes

ConsRetail division is poorly run and there is constant turn over because of the abuse. Miscommunication happens everyday because the retail president demands things to happen instantly but then constantly changes his mind and then blames it on you for not listening. Your quality of life will be destroyed because of all the stress and all the yelling that is directed at everyone - you will spend everyday trying to stay out of the line of fire but it is useless because you will get screamed at and told you are worthless. This place is run by fear and not by respect and they have no dedication to retain their good employees and they have lost a lot of quality people. Run as far as you can from this place and look elsewhere, it's not worth it!!

    HORRIBLE SHOE COMPANY!

    First Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
    Myrtle Beach, SC

Pros50% discount on all shoes and 25% off accessories

Conslow pay, no incentives, unrealistic contests, corporate office never knows what to do when you call with a question, out-dated POS systems, & its a "buddy" system from store manager, district, & regional.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake advice from Nike on EVERYTHING!

Branding also applies to your employees

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

    ProsGood discounts
    Good education on footwear
Met the owners countless times, very nice
Reimbursement if you're sent to other stores

ConsPoor pay and poor compensation on sales
Low resources for success vs. High expectations
    Accountability leans towards blame game
    No recognition for successes
    Employees are viewed as disposable
Highly aggressive when it comes to new products or "initiatives" with no incentives
    Disorganized
Computer systems are old and therefore slow(my store still ran on dial-up)
    Frugal
No room for advancement, promotions were rarely given unless desperate. (They will literally sit on vacant positions just to save money)
    Does not promote from within
    Unfair treatment
If management(whether PT or FT) you're going to lose all "aspects" of your life
If you own a car, you're going to be sent all around the district

Advice to Senior ManagementBranding means as much to your employees as it does your customers. If you want your retail workers to put their best feet forward, you have to inspire through positivity not negativity. The company is young and it shows in its frugality, aggressiveness, and overall treatment(poor) of it's staff and as such, it creates a hostile environment.
Find the balance between "positive" aggression towards goals while not destroying your image. Customers CAN see the poor treatment

An easy job with a fun atmosphere, but countered by a lack of structure and organization.

    Second Assistant Manager (Former Employee)

Pros1) The job is ridiculously easy in the concept stores, though the outlet store type is a little more demanding.

    2) Very comfortable, laid back culture within the company.

    3) There is almost no oversight regarding discounts. I discounted everything when it came to grinding extra commission.

    4) In my experience, there are very good promotion opportunities available if you are the least bit competent. I'm confident that I could have been a store manager if I had ever expressed the desire. Though, networking is the name of the game. Too, If you have a business degree or are currently in school for business, you will notice how you are light-years beyond others.

Cons1) The brand struggles with the 18-25 age group, making it a little less interesting for me since I fall into that group. It would be nice to work for a company with a product I'm passionate about, but I'll likely never buy Skechers products.

    2) The technology used by the company is outdated and needs to be replaced. Be prepared to write and use a calculator.

    3) This is not an innovative company whatsoever. It is a copycat brand and lags behind its competitors. Moreover, there is no long term vision nor a sense of identity.

    4) Inadequate loss prevention policies, procedures and practices. This is the downside of a passive environment.

    5) I dread the company's customer service policy known as "Commit to Convert." It is basically a routine they demand that provides augmented services to customers, such as measuring feet and assisting customers with trying on their shoes. I can't blame them for incorporating a pretty streamline retail strategy, but I didn't participate and I was successful.

Advice to Senior ManagementJust give customers what they want 100% of the time. It will make your job easier and will only benefit you in the long run.

Good place to work as Management crew

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFast growing company in Texas region. Empowerment to Management.

ConsSomewhat political for moving up opportunities. If you are not "Skechers image" you will not move up in the chain.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote from within should be a stronger based decision.
