    Pros

Can tutor in a variety of subjects that you receive a specific grade in. Requires you to be proficient and intelligent in past courses you've taken, not just forget material.

    Cons

Cannot negotiate your salary as it is fixed for all tutors

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More feedback for tutors

I worked at Skidmore College full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful and welcoming coworkers (at least in my department), not a huge divide between faculty and administration (great President). Students were generally a pleasure to work with. For a small liberal arts college, a lot of research opportunities. Great "town - gown" relationship. Good opportunities for interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching and research.

    Cons

A large cohort of visiting faculty are hired every year, which results in a big turnover of faculty (which students don't like either). This is both not permanent, but also pays less.

I worked at Skidmore College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Convenient if you go to the school. You are pretty independent in general.

    Cons

It can be a little unorganized. The pay is on the low end. The training isn't that great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update email addresses. I still receive emails from them.

I have been working at Skidmore College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Easy work and easy pay. As a language tutor in both the Writing Center and the language lab, I definitely feel like I get a chance to help people!

    Cons

The pay is somewhat low in the language lab ($8.25), and the lab is not highly publicized, so I can go a long time without tutoring anyone. We're getting new office space soon though, so that problem should improve!

  10. My experience as a Research Assistant as an undergraduate was engaging and productive.

I worked at Skidmore College as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

I learned useful research skills and make a stronger connection with faculty.

    Cons

I didn't have experience as a non-student staff member, so I can't speak to that.

I have been working at Skidmore College full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, paid lunches, holidays, health benefits, campus usage (pool, exercise facilities), On-Campus performances and events, dining facilities, job security, tuition exchange.

    Cons

Mediocre pay, lot of red tape, lack of management's ability to move quickly, little or no chance to move up, everything moves slow, too much concern for diversity and not enough concern for those that are already here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop acting like everyone has an opinion, and make smart decisions based on employee experience. Trust your employees and stop bowing to the majority.
