    Pros

Interesting space and always lots of projects going on.
People are mostly given direction and allowed to figure out the details - not a lot of micro-management. Very fast pace and high expectations, but not unreasonable.
Consistent leadership team has been there since the beginning and when they say "open door policy" they really mean it.
Excellent benefits and high respect for work/life balance.

    Cons

Expectations are high and it's up to you to make sure you manage work/life balance.
New opportunities can mean quick changes in direction. Be prepared
No formal performance reviews (which could be a pro for some)

    Advice to Management

Communicate more with the entire employee population, not just Sales. Don't get too distracted with acquisitions

    Pros

Hmmm. Can't think of any. Maybe 5 years ago there were pro's.

    Cons

Their content is not up-to-date and not deep enough so they are loosing deals to Lynda, Pluralsight and CK. Customers have many technical problems accessing their site due to Java issues. They made a serious strategic mistake in acquiring Sumtotal, who are no longer a player in the LMS market. Their competitors are laughing at them. Customer renewal rate below 80% I hear. All top sales reps leaving.

    Advice to Management

Instead of trying to buy competitors, try to create a new market. If these guys were running Nokia, Nokia would still be making rubber tires. Bunch of accountants with no imagination who screw their employees.

    Pros

The company cares about its employees. Benefits and pay are good.

    Cons

No agile. Product groups are spread throughout the world, making it difficult to collaborate in a timely manner. Not enough challenge in day-to-day activities. No communication between product teams.

    Advice to Management

Conduct small group meetings once in awhile so the teams know what the other teams are doing, especially if it directly impacts the team.

    Pros

Forward-thinking, intelligent people that I loved working with. We had a lot of fun while getting a lot done.
    Casual environment
    In-demand product.
    Great technology to work with.
Company-wide Quarterly Bonuses when sales goals were met.
    Generous PTO / Sick Time

    Cons

Compensation was an issue then, I hear it's better now.
Long hours, but a) it was an IT job and b) the infrastructure has matured to mitigate a lot of late night, off hours work

    Advice to Management

I hear good things about the direction of the company now. Keep up the good work.

  7. Re-distribution of work flow. More than enough to keep me busy, yet other employees spend countless hours on internet

    Pros

Salaries better than average, if only a little.

    Cons

Lateral business hierarchy only a theory. Bullying tolerated. Unpaid overtime expected. Poor communication between departments that are supposed to be part of tr same team.

    Advice to Management

There's lots of power struggles between departments, and protecting of turf at the expense of projects as a whole. Get people together as a team and let them talk - not hide behind powerpoints and message boards.

    Pros

Skillsoft is known for their strong work-life balance where family time is important. There is a team environment in all departments. Also, there is low turnover. There is a saying around Skillsoft that once you make it past 6 months to a year, you tend to stay for life. Nearly all management has been with the company 10+ years. Additionally, there is room for advancement and promotions are typically from within.

    Cons

The office could use some serious updating (i.e. newer cubicles, chairs, desks, lighting, etc.). The office looks like it is from the 1970's.

    Advice to Management

No advice to give. Management is responsive and supportive.

    No micromanagement
    Leader in the elearning industry.
The industry is getting bigger every day.

    Cons

There are always growing pains in any company. The company is restructuring and rebuilding its elearning software and marketing goals.

    Pros

We are the biggest company in the business, there is no competition left. We have acquired everyone.

    Cons

Company tends to know better than the customer. We could be more flexible and listen more.

    Advice to Management

    Loosen up some!
