Pros
Ability to learn continuously, flexibility, exposure to many types of organizations and companies, entrepreneurial atmosphere, lots of opportunities to be creative and innovative
Cons
Can seem clique-ish at times, with a very tenured employee base. If new and field-based, it can be difficult to establish an internal network since everyone is remote.
Advice to Senior Management
Do more to seek out and encourage the insights and experiences of individuals who are new to the organization. They bring a fresh perspective that is sometimes overlooked or diminished in a sea of very tenured employees.
Pros
Lots of training to get you up to speed almost too much. Good internal support. Strong pay and commision program.
Cons
Sales VP is not a people person and doesnt get it... (no internal communication skills). carried a grudge on some Sales Reps based on sour relationship with RM.
Leads generation was poor.
Saturated regions with too many AE’s
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to share your knowledge and experience. If you have an issue with someone adress the issue like a man. With as much as you invest in the AE's training, you would think you would put forth a better effort to communicate standing.
Pros
Benefit package, comp plan, atmosphere
Cons
Management plays favorites. Independent thoughts are discouraged.
Pros
Great benifits (vacation/wellness programs/401k/medical,dental,vision)
Well known as the best provider of eLearning
Good hours
Great felid sales teams
Excellent corporate office
Cons
Management does not communicate well with employees.
Management likes to use fear and threatens their employees with tactics that diminish the confidence levels needed to sell.
Make sure you are well like and part of the "in crowd" or you may loose leads.
No clear path for advancement
Advice to Senior Management
Work on delivering a consistent message. Be more fair with your employees. Its nice to have a vision "March to 50 Million" just dont loose sight of the people that are going to get you there.
Pros
Work/life balance is something that SkillSoft takes seriously - it's not just a nice slogan to quote at interviews (which is why most people stay there). The employees are all very nice and people treat others very well. Management treats employees well in terms of friendliness and warmth (but see cons below for the trade-off) Company is profitable, lots of money in the bank. Stable, pleasant place to work.
Cons
The pay is at least 20-25% lower than comparable jobs elsewhere - there is no clear career path, no job descriptions, no reviews, no annual raises. As a result, the company gets what they pay for and don't understand the lost opportunity cost. Constant fire drills as a result of no product or marketing vision beyond "close the next sale". Extremely cheap (which is why there is so much money in the bank), employees are viewed as easily replaceable cogs, this is an education content company that provides no career education opportunities. The company is at a crossroads - they've reached a point where they don't know where to go next. If you want to coast - this is the place to be. If you are looking to learn and grow - this isn't the place for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Set some goals/long term vision, make some tough product decisions to support that vision, and stick to them.
Pros
Paid well for high performance
Management Listens to the field
Clear industry leader
Cons
The market is more mature so the sell is challenging
The SkillSoft Products are not mission critical to customers.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you are doing the company is successful and the employees are happy. I wouldn't want to leave the company and I look forward to being a part of the long term success.
Pros
Senior Mgmt are readily available to help and are totally committed to the success of their sales folks.
Cons
Sometimes so much to sell that it is hard to find the right solution for the right company
Advice to Senior Management
Put more emphasis on competition and marketing venues
Pros
Exceptional talent management program and on-boarding experience. Huge investment in training and people - gives you all the tools to succeed.
Cons
CRM System needs to be modernized, but we make due.
Advice to Senior Management
We need some better alignement between marketing and sales.
Pros
The work/life balance
People are nice
Easy commute
Cons
Too many silos
No clear communication
No sense of quality
Lack of process
Lack of resource management
No training
Unable to scope projects effectively
Culture is boring and almost non-existent
Management is poor overall with a few shining stars, who pull the load for the entire company
Low salary
No money allocated to tools to do job effectively
Advice to Senior Management
Lead, stop passing the buck and lead. Mediocre will not cut it in this economy.
Pros
Enjoy being in the market leadership position, but know we need to stay sharp to stay the Leader. Challenging work environment and full of personal and professional reward. Feels like I run my own business with a HUGE support system making sure I'm successful.
Cons
Complex sales cycles and pretty long hours. Can feel a little isolated if you don't regularly tap into your SkillSoft network.
Advice to Senior Management
Believe they are striking a good balance of being available, yet focusing on taking us in the direction we're going. Would encourage them to continue to be available and transparent.
