Company is all about profits and pay doesn't reflect role. Many employees in our department are paid at 70% of market rate which is apparently acceptable

    I worked at Sky

    Pros

    Free Sky TV! Good pay

    Cons

The management make your job 100x harder than what it needs to be, constantly undermined by management. Management don't take responsibily and don't listen to feedback from employees or customers. Your just a number in sky and they know that you are easily replaced. When I was there team leaders where talking about me behind my back - I won't repeat what was said but in no way are they professional. They give out constantly and never praise you for the work that you done well, only pull you up on the work you didn't do. Targets are unrealistic and unfair. They never help when you ask for help. I asked for help for a year and never got it. Absolutely ridiculous and no wonder they have such a high turnover. They take on about 50 new peple every month to make up for the 50 people that leave every month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need a serious review of the company and how it treats employees. I ended up severely depressed and anxious because of working there. Way too much pressure for a call centre job.

I worked at Sky full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Sky Benefits and average salary. Also good name in the CV, prestigious company.

    Cons

Management is most of the times incompetent, bullying employees under HR's and Director's support. There is no support for employees to grow or move to other teams as there is no benefit for the manager. Work is often very specialized.
HR in SNS is the worst I have seen, always on the side of the management, even when it comes to bullying and unfair performance reviews.

I have been working at Sky

    Pros

Free sky. Share save scheme. Discounted personal mileage all tools provided. Engineers always willing to help the inexperienced with problems.

    Cons

Work life balance is heavly in favour of the company. The company are pushing engineers more and more. Some managers preech health and safety but are not really bothered so long as jobs are done! But (and a big but) will get you sacked the first sign of trouble as the company interprets their own rule to suite themselves. Make sure all verbal conversations are recorded and everything else backed up by email. I have expierenced two mangers, first one brilliant second ine out for themselves! (Before anyone says anything I am not a bitter engineer! I did wrong and except that, shame the company doesn't have the same integratiy and honestnesty as myself)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't always look at engineers as the ones who are in the wrong, just because the Team mangaer says so doesn't mean its right.

I have been working at Sky full-time

    Pros

    Agile environment
    Not high pressure
Reasonable amount of freedom on technology choices

    Cons

A cull of contractors has meant that senior perm developers have left too
Agile development environment, but working within waterfall project management
Tech debt is sidelined despite it adding significant cost to new projects and operations
Some vanity projects that cannot be killed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pause for a breath and make the existing systems more maintainable where possible, and rewrite where not
