Pros – The flat organizational structure affords you all the opportunity you are looking for. There isn't a lot of office politics, and if you see an opportunity they allow you to go for it! You have to take responsibilities for your own success, so if you have an entrepreneurial spirit there isn't a better place to work! They have taken a vested interest in offering training, but it's not made mandatory. They do a great job with events outside of the normal work day and spare no expense when it comes to pampering their employees. The company has continued to invest in the company even during the economic slowdown and are well positioned to grab market share when things pick up.
Cons – The flat structure isn't for everyone, so if you aren't willing to take some initiative you can feel lost or left out. At times it seems as if there are mixed messages coming from management. Different leaders take on different pet-projects, so priorities often get reshuffled with no clear sense of direction or strategy
Advice to Senior Management – Decide on a single strategy, prioritize how to achieve that goal, and go for it! Along with that, be sure that it is clearly communicated and that everyone knows their part.

Pros – Work life balance does exist to some extent. If you're lucky, you'll get on a project that is right up your alley. Not much travel mostly local.
Cons – Benefits are the worst of any company or consultancy I have ever worked at.
Salaries are competitive in the middle. They need to consider stronger salaries if the billing rates are rising and they can claim business is growing. Reward the people laying the foundation.
The org chart is very flat. The opportunities for promotions or to show ANY future employer that you had career growth here will be difficult.
Many in sr. mgmt. are recruited from outside, and are highly experienced but moderately talented.
These are mostly individuals with lots of experience, but left their previous employers because they could not succeed any further. Slalom doesn't land any 'name' executives or managers from rivals that are truly on their way up.
Do not expect to be given a clear indication of where you stand or where you're going within the company. Operations here is similar to pulling strands of spaghetti apart with a chop stick.
This place, at it's heart, is staff augmentation, with the consulting company tagline added in. Don't believe the hype that it is one of the best places to work because some organization said so. Slalom markets that to death.
Advice to Senior Management – Instead of spending money on branding and advertising the company to future employees, make the ones you have happy! It's not about what you want, but what you have!
Get strong and valued executive and senior management. Not wanna-be's or has-beens. We need leaders on their way up.

Former Employee – worked at Slalom Consulting
Pros – You get to stay in a local place. So, if you are a burnt out ex-big 4 who is sick of traveling, it's a good place to park yourself for a year or two.
Cons – The place is a body shop to push local projects to burnt out ex-big 4 people.
So, if you are looking for growth, you are not going to get it. The management response for your development is "it's your responsibility". Good sounding, but in reality this means they will use whatever value you have till you are no longer needed. And any value add skils, you will have to pony up time and money to do so.
So, if you are little motivated, then be a self-employed consultant through other outfits. Will be more financially rewarding.
Also, if you are not willing to play office politic, then you will be pushed out. This is very political organization.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop the frat mentality.
Stop the preferential treatment to kiss-asses.
Most importantly, develop a fair process to reward and develop your existing employees.

Current Employee – been working at Slalom Consulting
Pros – Entrepreneurial spirit
Ability to take advantage of great people, ideas and clients to grow your career
Excellent corporate culture and competent people
Cons – Easy to get lost in the mix if you are looking for someone to handhold you
Not set up for 'career path' - flat org structure limits promotions
Advice to Senior Management – Stay in touch with your consultants, make them feel a part of the culture and enable them to contribute internally and externally

Current Employee – been working at Slalom Consulting
Pros – Challenging projects lead to ground-breaking innovation.
Employee centric company culture.
Can-do atmosphere.
High achieving and dedicated workforce.
Career opportunities unsurpassed.
Recognition for exemplary performance.
Competitive benefits package.
Cons – Networking with other consultants is difficult as most work off-site in client's office. However, the firm regularly offers some activities in which consultants are allowed to interact away from work.
Advice to Senior Management – It would be in the company's best interest to not only focus on the needs of our clients, but the internal needs of the company as it grows and expands onto a national platform.

Cons – I really can't think of any.
Advice to Senior Management – Having direct access to our leaders is key. Keep encouraging feedback from consultants on how to keep this a great company to work for!

Current Employee – been working at Slalom Consulting
Pros – Slalom provides an environment where you can take your good ideas and run with them with full management support. Employees are encourage to get involved and the company is very flexible with time off, etc. They do a great job with culture and have amazing events!
Cons – The world of management consulting can be challenging in this environment, as a result the company started carrying a bench. Since traditionally the company operates with very few un-staffed consultants, I think they were caught a bit off guard during the slowdown. This resulted in a lot of consultants with idle time on there hands...
Advice to Senior Management – Clearer communication on the direction they want to take the company and how they plan on getting there.
