I have been working at Sleep Number by Select Comfort full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I like the company, my manager, and the work involved. It's much better than a regular retail sales job. It has been my experience, that the company is very ethical, and has high integrity in dealing with it's customers and employees. They try to do the right thing for the right reason most of the time if not all of the time. I'm reading some of the negative reviews, and it all comes down to the luck of the draw based on who your store manager is. I'm lucky to have a good one.

    Cons

The personal sales goals are hard to reach if you are a new hire, they don't seem to be realistic and are quite discouraging. Their micro managing process seems to stop here for some reason. I would suggest coaching and training skills be an on going practice by your DM's and Store Managers to help eliminate some of the negative feedback on this sight. I think it would be helpful to have a short verbal "End of month review" one on one with employees; this would help re connect with everyone on the team. Not just when they are doing poorly.

    Advice to Management

When assessing individual monthly sales goals, take into account, their past individual performance, Marketing programs for the month, and length of service with the company. (even out the playing field)

    Pros

    Flexible and treat employees fairly.

    Cons

Compensation, career progression, too many at the top (Sr. leaders) who hold onto responsibilities vs. grooming their team.

    Advice to Management

Offer more projects, value developing employees and offering progression.

    Pros

Flexible work hours for my team, but this is not consistent across all teams in my department. FMLA leave could be better (e.g. Full pay would be appreciated for all employees, not just directors and above).

    Cons

Continuously changing days-to-day direction in the projects I'm on. Take the time to create a plan and stick to or at least don't have knee-jerk reactions to something going wrong.

    Pros

Loyal customer base that is always growing. Devent pay for sales position. Hourly plus commission and bonus. Not a bad schedule retail sales quality product with a good discount and bunch of great people working for the company

    Cons

Sometimes the goals can seem a little daunting but they usually work out. Don't really have a lot that I can say if you're looking for a good job and you're decent sales person you can make a decent living here follow the policies stay outta trouble and you have a nice career here. There isn't a lot of room for advancement they do tend to hire from outside the company. That said the right person can work their way up the company ladder

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees that come to you with problems or issues. Some of the store Managers let The power go to their head and take advantage of employees. Thia is the biggest cause of turn over.

I have been working at Sleep Number by Select Comfort (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can make some good money

    Cons

You give a company three years of employment and work and work and work and upper management looks at nothing but your numbers for your budget.when a dm cant show you how to do the job and can only pynish you instead of helping you so you go to work in fear. each store has different demographics and different people for customers but they think since one store can do it so can you.. You then realize that the budgets that are given or sometimes unattainable when advertising falls short or ir doesn't work that well in your area and you're unable to reach your goals and bonuses because of that also upper management is only worried about themselves because when they do their job wrong the manager pays the price they simply replace you and try again even though sometimes you are terminated for reasons that are not in your control such as timecards they find a way to dispose of you. The pay is good when you make your bonuses but when you calculate your hours since you are salary and you end up working 90 hours in 2 weeks and realize that the pay then its not worth the time that you put into it because your results are so far from reach it doesn't work out I think if the district managers were held responsible more sleep number stores could make larger profits and more money for everybody

I have been working at Sleep Number by Select Comfort full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great product that continues to improve. Our beds are only sold at sleep number locations and we have set prices.

    Cons

Your pay is mostly commission and district managers have complete control over your budgets. Better stay on their good side. Not a livable wage for the denver colorado area. Be prepared for dissapointin your family because they want you to work overtime even when you're not short staffed and it's slow. Not a good career if you have a family. Zero consistency in how districts are managed. There are policies but most district managers ignore and make their own requirements.

    Advice to Management

Realize all the pointless busy work district managers make up and require so they can micromanage you to the point that you want to quit. Have a set standard for budget increases across the country, less controlled by district managers. Raise pay in areas with high housing costs so the work that's demanded gives equal quality of life across the country.
