    Pros

Great company with outstanding character and staff. Home delivery is a work in progress and everyone works very hard at improving what needs to be improved. Management genially cares about employees and staff. Focuses on developing underperforming employees whenever possible. Everyone gets a chance to succeed assuming they are not committing a crime with their actions

    Cons

A few long term employees that do not like accountability. These are people who claim to misuse company property "accidentally". Takes time to change and it can be frustrating during the process but current HD management is weeding out bad apples one at a time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the hard work. Continue to focus on developing delivery teams

    Pros

Selling of a product line and accessories that is extremely easy to believe in is a big +! Performance based compensation w/ a base salary allows for growth and stability. Key performers recognized publicly makes for a positive workplace environment. Sales staff is encouraged to try out the products at home and become owner's.

    -

    Cons

Individual goals and numbers not based on LY performance and appear to be completely arbitrary. Promotions from within are not always based on achievements numbers-wise at the store level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in more training of the store/district management to recognize the strengths/abilities/weaknesses of the retail staff and store leadership.

    Pros

It's odd to work for a company where you actually speak to your Regional Vice President and he's awesome. Same goes for the District Manager which normally one dreads to see. The commission system is structured to reward you more when you and your store succeed at goals. And the teamwork aspect of the selling process is emphasized greatly. Only have a few coworkers and one manager to answer to is almost like having another family you're a part of. The products and the benefits they offer for sleep are innovative and ahead of the competition. My roommate calls Sleep Number the "apple" of the bed industry.

    Cons

The hours can be long. And sometimes the goals may seem a bit unattainable. The Ups system doesn't always work out in your favor. Stores that don't work as a team will likely have individuals who fail to make months. I have zero complaints about management in all aspects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Potentially fix the system so former employees who bought beds are considered inner circle. Not all are terminated and most may leave peacefully. It's tedious to ask district manager on a case by case basis when old employees come in looking to replace their old mattresses or purchase for loved ones.

Otherwise keep up the good work!

    Pros

Ownership in my store, very little 'micro management'.
Truly helped many people over the years, great feeling.

    Cons

Worked a lot of weeks without a day off during busy seasons.
Marketing that works in large cities, does not work in rural environments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let stores use some of the advertising budget on local things that work in that area. IE, newspaper inserts in a Thursday paper that gets little circulation may be better spent on a local radio station that reaches more shoppers.
