Pros
working here with very smart people.
Cons
Very hard working here from 10am to 10pm
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the product steady.
Pros
Overall, Slide has been a nice place to work. Currently, their is some downsizing which is disappointing, but overall morale remains strong.
Cons
The downsizing is disappointing. I'm hoping management can do a better job of monetizing all the creative things we are building.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep pushing the morale and positive culture. We've creative so many fun and entertaining tools for people to use and we should be encouraged to build more!
Pros
The people were the best things at Slide. There was a sense of camaraderie and unity among the individual teams. The people were also very talented and there were a lot of amazing contributions to the company.
Cons
The talent and efforts of the people working there wasn't utilized well. The goals set for the company were unrealistic of what was actually going on, and there was a lack of respect for a lot of employees' opinions and position.
Office politics are a huge part of the company, and it was really hard to navigate and take in all the negativity that the environment was creating. There were extremely long hours put in, but a lot of people were not properly compensated or recognized for their efforts.
There was also a serious lack of understanding of the applications in the company. Teams would be told that this is the goal they have to work towards, but it wouldn't be scalable over the long term. There was also a lack of professional growth for employees.
While communication is really important, there wasn't a lot of good communicating going around. A very "in one ear, and out the other" mentality that ties back to the lack of respect given to the employees. There is a lack of good direction for the company to go in due to poor choices and it affected a lot of people.
Advice to Senior Management
The management would be very confusing. Sometimes they would take a laissez-faire style approach to team management, and all of a sudden turn around and try to micromanage team workflows. The management should sit back and really listen to the employees that are intimately involved with the projects, there is a valuable feedback there.
If employees don't feel like their opinion or effort is properly valued, then it's not good for the company. A company should treat their employees like people, not commodities.
Pros
Good benefits
Talented and friendly people
In an exciting and growing market
Cons
Disorganized
Lack of respect for peoples' time
Long hours usually due to the 2 items above
Not much room to grow professionally
Advice to Senior Management
Management quite often uses negative reinforcement. I constantly felt that I was doing things wrong or under appreciated. There are times for appreciation and criticism, but there didn't seem to be a good balance of that here.
Pros
Great benefits food, espresso, trips.
Cons
Slide does not understand the creative process. Do not work there if you are a creative.
Advice to Senior Management
Let people do the job you hired them to do.
Pros
Slide is the hottest company in tech. Slide consists of strictly A-list talent in business and engineering. Slide has the highest ratio of users to employees of any tech company in the world (over 170 million users, approx. 80 employees). Given the axiomatic formula for job kick-assness: (fun of workplace) x (fun of product) x (valuation of company), working at Slide is the most kick-ass job in the universe.
Cons
Slide employees must reconcile for outsiders how products that are ostensibly silly and just-for-fun can in actuality be seriously valuable. There is a high barrier-to-entry for novice Ping Pong and Mario Kart Wii players.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing: recognizing and rewarding talent and hard work.
