I worked at Slumberland full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Leadership, has a market niche, great company culture. A company that says they value their employees and they follow through on that promise.

    Cons

Family owned and run organization that sometime overrides logic. Benefits could be better and their growth is limited due to a saturated marketplace.

I have been working at Slumberland full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You basically control how much you are going to make. Plenty of chances to make a lot of money. Great benefits such as health insurance, 401K, and tuition assistance.

    Cons

The pay is inconsistent. Sales are seasonal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivate your sales people with intrinsic rewards because they last longer.

I have been working at Slumberland full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great reputation. Marketing is great as well.

    Cons

Long hours for sales people. I have heard it is not a fun experience to work for any of the franchise stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close earlier. Very few people want to shop after 7 especially in the winter.

I worked at Slumberland full-time for less than a year

    Pros

In general, Slumberland has an excellent reputation as an employer on a national level.

    Cons

Many stores are franchises rather than corporately owned. The Springfield, Illinois franchise is a dreadful place to work. Totally negative work environment!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Choose your franchisees more carefully

I worked at Slumberland full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great discount program for furniture. Excellent mission statement, if it were upheld in relation to employees as well as consumers.

    Cons

Extremely physical labor for minimal compensation, work related injuries are brushed aside, company abandons employees in tough economic conditions (wage freeze, cancellation of 401k matching, scholarship program, etc.) Almost no room for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the lower level employees more in decision making, rather than simply focusing on the bottom line. The base level is the foundation for the organization. You cannot build a company without a strong foundation.

I have been working at Slumberland full-time

    Pros

I've earned a decent salary for a minimal amount of work. I enjoy helping people pick out furniture and managing my customer base.

    Cons

I have to worry that at any time I will have a bad month and won't earn enough to pay my bills. Also, my coworkers can be very cut-throat and dishonest. I have very little life outside of work, because I work 9am-8pm during the week. I haven't had a weekend off in years. I work every holiday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more emphasis on your employees and a little less on yourselves.

I have been working at Slumberland full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great discounts extended to immediate family, Commission motivates you to sell(made 65k first year), very flexible for time off.

    Cons

Several long time employees with horrible attitudes. They need to go!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

performance manage a little more. Not looking to make an extremely stressful environment, but if you have one person selling 60-80k consistently and others selling 30-40, there is a problem.

I worked at Slumberland full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great deals on furniture, good on the job physical workout, and Monday through Friday schedule was sometimes a bonus. Overall a decent organization that doesn't treat factory workers like numbers in the masses.

    Cons

Wage freeze for over two years due to "lack of profits" while the company was still managing to expand its territory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be honest with your employees

I have been working at Slumberland

    Pros

Slumberland is very particular on their best practices, and they come from the sales floor. This company wide communication is one of the best I have seen in retail. Their logistics are tried and true. Ex: if it says it is in stock, it is in stock. I have never had something "not be there."

    Cons

Not a cohesive sales team. A lot of negativity from other sales associates when it comes to your personal sales. They don't give "5's" on reviews. Their thought is then you wouldn't have anything to work on, and you will always get a "4." My opinion is that; if you don't know what qualifies for a "5," then you will never get 5 performance. Figure out what excellent looks like and push people towards it, without making your request ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more team goals, and more accurate appraisals.
