    Cons

If you can't keep up you will be trampled on, not for everyone. Sales focussed by any means

    Pros

Smart people, work hard, good customers. Everyone trying hard but managers are not trained and don't know how to lead. The customers want the company to succeed, but the sales people only know how to sell the email.

    Cons

Executive management is new to the industry and keeps changing direction. Lack of consistent communication and CEO enjoys making offhanded insults at employee meetings.

    Advice to Management

Fix the product, train the managers and communicate a plan.

    Pros

None, really. Except being a bit lenient on days off and working from home... Also, the benefits are not bad. 401k and health. Previously, their bonuses/commissions were good but recently this has changed and they took forever to tell employees about the new plans.

    Cons

Management is terrible. Company is way too focused on sales. Clients are unhappy due to the lack of help from support and account managers are only focused on renewing clients - not keeping them happy. Barely any real training for employees. The product is terrible and has many flaws that no one wants to fix because they only want to focus on new features.

    Advice to Management

Listen to customers and what they need. Provide better support and listen to employee suggestions. Needs to focus more on customer support and not only on sales.

    Pros

Can do attitude. This is a great company if it did not have the items in CONS. You have the ability to learn and move with the flow. There are tons of opportunities to learn and really make a difference.

    Cons

To focused on sales. If you hate selling anything, this is not the place for you. All Management cares about is hitting the goals. Which is not a bad thing, but you have to have a solid product. Most clients are fooled by the Salesman (No brainer here) and Client Services will take the heat. This isnt a problem because you just bring the Sales guy back in the picture. Management is ambitious. But over the top ambitious. They'll shoot themselves in the foot if they have not done so already. - Work/live balance tips on the Work side heavily - Compensation is okay. Build experience and jump to a competitor. - Career Opportunities are available if you can sell. Test yourself, find a product you know is dysfunctional, and see how many people you can sell it to. The first 3 don't count. - CEO is on cloud 9. - Country Vice Presidents: Suck.

    Advice to Management

Profit is not a dirty word. Profiting from something where there is nothing, that is another story. Create stronger products, higher professional managers for countries, invest/develop the office. Built a rapport both with clients and co-workers. This hopefully will lead to profit.

    Pros

There is a young energy as all employees are in their late 20's to early 30's. There is opportunity to do well and advance within the company.

    Cons

The company does very well in Europe where it was founded, but has had great difficulty growing in the US market where there is a slew of established competition. Aspects of the software and the goals for it are very impressive, but prospects and clients find that there are bugs and a challenging ui. Nonetheless, expect a high degree of pressure to hit sales numbers.

I have been working at SmartFocus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly people, working on cool projects in R&D, free fruits and sometimes sweets, tech stack very modern and even cutting edge. Good pay in comparison to the same role in other companies. People care about product. They welcome being creative. Funny discussions with co-workers. Lunches in the park. Little negativity at least in the teams I have seen and worked in. They value talent. Good diversity.

    Cons

Not really a con, but culture can differ from team to team. There seems to be a slight turnover in non-R&D departments.

    Advice to Management

I believe they are doing their job quite well, can't really think of much to say to be honest. May be fun to organize more non drinking events.

I worked at SmartFocus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working on the latest technology. They love to ride on the latest wave in the market. The office is huge and the tools at your disposal are almost new. The French office has a strong labour union and the French law makes working here even better since the working hours and the environment is very relaxed. Frequent team building evenings and after works keeps you engaged with the office culture. The colleagues (at least at the same level) are highly co-operative and keep the momentum alive. HR process is really simple and straight forward.

    Cons

The building is located in a not-so-promising neighbourhood. Guess, that is because of the low rent which they can afford. Budget as they say is a problem but incorrect product management decisions have led to plug being pulled for projects that have been assured to have promising future. This way, they waste not only precious time but also the resources and expertise that go into making such applications that never reach the customer. Managers have no clue which ball is coming up next and more often than not, whenever a senior management delegate comes over from London there is a curve ball that is never dodged. The projects always start on a promising and as time passes by, spiral down to wither with time. Huge difference in the way company integrates newly brought companies hence there is never a cohesive feeling among teams. It should be summarised as two donkeys on two leashes working in a counter productive puddle to reach nowhere. Products that were really good have become obsolete over time either due to negligence or due to lack of interest shown by the management. The core principles which drive the company for so long have disappeared. The people who are working there are criticising the entire hierarchy. Line managers have no say in increments and bonuses. It is almost like Mr. Mullen even though is very loosely attached to such activities is actually the deciding personnel. He decides for everything from the colors of the wall to the way a meeting must be conducted.

    Advice to Management

The people of this company need you and your support. Instead of driving them around, prepare an agenda that would help them give out more results. And please stop being so compulsive, it does not create harmony. It creates rift and displeasure. Stop dividing teams and making groups. Each one working for Smartfocus is working towards a unified goal, and that is not to please the management. Period.
