    Pros

Smart people, work hard, good customers. Everyone trying hard but managers are not trained and don't know how to lead. The customers want the company to succeed, but the sales people only know how to sell the email.

    Cons

Executive management is new to the industry and keeps changing direction. Lack of consistent communication and CEO enjoys making offhanded insults at employee meetings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the product, train the managers and communicate a plan.

The past few positive reviews are definitely made up by management.

    Pros

None, really. Except being a bit lenient on days off and working from home...

Also, the benefits are not bad. 401k and health. Previously, their bonuses/commissions were good but recently this has changed and they took forever to tell employees about the new plans.

    Cons

Management is terrible. Company is way too focused on sales. Clients are unhappy due to the lack of help from support and account managers are only focused on renewing clients - not keeping them happy.

Barely any real training for employees. The product is terrible and has many flaws that no one wants to fix because they only want to focus on new features.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to customers and what they need. Provide better support and listen to employee suggestions. Needs to focus more on customer support and not only on sales.

    Pros

Can do attitude. This is a great company if it did not have the items in CONS. You have the ability to learn and move with the flow. There are tons of opportunities to learn and really make a difference.

    Cons

To focused on sales. If you hate selling anything, this is not the place for you. All Management cares about is hitting the goals. Which is not a bad thing, but you have to have a solid product. Most clients are fooled by the Salesman (No brainer here) and Client Services will take the heat. This isnt a problem because you just bring the Sales guy back in the picture.

Management is ambitious. But over the top ambitious. They'll shoot themselves in the foot if they have not done so already.

    - Work/live balance tips on the Work side heavily
    - Compensation is okay. Build experience and jump to a competitor.
    - Career Opportunities are available if you can sell. Test yourself, find a product you know is dysfunctional, and see how many people you can sell it to. The first 3 don't count.
    - CEO is on cloud 9.
    - Country Vice Presidents: Suck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Profit is not a dirty word. Profiting from something where there is nothing, that is another story. Create stronger products, higher professional managers for countries, invest/develop the office. Built a rapport both with clients and co-workers. This hopefully will lead to profit.

    Pros

There is a young energy as all employees are in their late 20's to early 30's. There is opportunity to do well and advance within the company.

    Cons

The company does very well in Europe where it was founded, but has had great difficulty growing in the US market where there is a slew of established competition. Aspects of the software and the goals for it are very impressive, but prospects and clients find that there are bugs and a challenging ui. Nonetheless, expect a high degree of pressure to hit sales numbers.

    Mass Exodus of staff...

I have been working at SmartFocus full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

some fantastic staff that have ridden a very successful wave of company growth and made a considerable amount of cash doing so.
This company has paid huge (unsustainable) commissions to sales people in the past.
SmartFocus also has some amazing solutions (which the industry is crying out for) the problem is they miss-sell them, they then don't work and cannot be implemented effectively.
Marketing have finally got their act together (including the reviews on the 13th June 2014 on Glassdoor - as no member of staff honestly believes that!) but they have a long way to go and a very tough job ahead!

    Cons

Without the most basic business principles in place this business will eventually fail!

Numerous senior key staff are leaving because the CEO doesn't listen (or take on board their advice) and keeps recruiting his own people who are more interested in picking fights and political point scoring...this is exhausting for everyone concerned and a waste of everyone's time and energy rather than focusing on the positive change the business and its clients desperately need.

There is also a culture of bullying and intimidation by senior staff which can make this a miserable and depressing place to work.

With a vast number of staff leaving this only places increasing pressure on the already stretched remaining staff that are close to breaking point. There is no induction for new starters or business process to follow and this again places more pressure on the experienced staff. The CEO quite openly doesn't care about this and consequently staff turnover is going through the roof.

Staff desperately try to hide the truth from new starters so they don't get demoralized immediately.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Throwing money at staff, when they resign, is no way to run an effective business.

lower your asking price and sell this company ASAP before it collapses.

    Pros

    very exciting activity
    very nice people
new CEO is trying to give a new strategy with ambitious

    Cons

if you work hard and demonstrate potential, no one will see it except for people who know the right person
in 2 years: from 700 to 250 employees, 3 CEOs
processes & processes instead of client focussed, you must let approve everything and can´t be proactive and reactive
No real training: nice to buy new firms but please, how could we sell it if you are not investing in sales training!!
Not in London? no chance to have any support

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do you really want to concentrate only to biggest clients who make 80% of turn over? do it and you will have a really poor client portfolio. if only one of these migrate to an another provider, it will kill the company, you can´t survive with only 200 clients...
No Head of Human Ressources => consider your employees, give them the opportunity to develop & highlight your ambition
Global Strategy is really interesting and you are going on the right way, but do not forget your core business: invest again, simplify processes, stop to communicate that we are the best place to work: you are about to close 3 offices in Europe => instead of make all operational employees redundant, think about your middle management => except of the one or the other, no support from this management and really far far from our daily business, just wanna to get a higher title, a higher salary...

    Pros

It used to be a quite promising, motivating, inspirational company with supposedly strong values.

    Cons

    The kingdom's crushed and crumbled.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's go for some 200000 coffees or more "meetings" if you're genuinely interested in some of your employees' feedback, if not, just keep on going. Having tons of money just for yourself is wonderfully admirable, illuminating, motivating and exemplary. Lessons for life / life lessons!
