    Pros

    CA office before acquisition by SmartPros:
    - Excellent environment, promoted integration, minimal supervision.
    - Multiple teams would come together to ship product on time.
    - Bright people, excellent graphic designers, content writers, and programmers.

    Cons

    SmartPros NY acquired Keepsmart CA, for its content and costumers, closed CA office and laid off employees.

    Pros

    The opportunity to learn about regulatory aspects in the financial industry was interesting and everyone in the office got along well. Equity is given based on performance and salary seems to be in line with industry.

    Cons

    Due to size of company, growth potential is somewhat limited and, at least from my perspective, relationships between business divisions seemed segregated where there should have been more opportunity.

    Foster cross-business collaboration

    Pros

    Many remote employees and flexibility to work from home
    Employees are nice and care about each other
    Some people are sharp
    Lower stress

    Cons

    The company has no direction and acquires other companies on the cheap. The different businesses then work in silos with no overall integration. Products are outdated and the company does very little to update them or listen to customers desire for specific content. Raises are non-existent, benefits are poor, numerous projects fall through the cracks because of little accountability and a total lack of oversight. Sales/tech/marketing all do not work together and point fingers at the other when things don't get done. You will not get ahead here and will stagnate in your role. The company does not invest in its own employee growth, despite being a training company. Compensation is below market average. Sleepy company that does not adapt to the needs of the market place and increased competition. Many people hide out here and collect a paycheck.

    Advice to Management

    Develop a strategy and execute against it. Focus on enhancing core products and stop with the fruitless acquisitions that continue to pull the company in many different directions. Wake up

    Pros

    Great coworkers and nice clients/customers. Teammates care about one another.

    Cons

    Salary is dreadful; embarrassingly low compared to standard and they don't even do cost of living adjustments. You will NEVER get a raise so they don't even both with yearly reviews.
    Benefits keep getting cut and weren't great in the first place. Lost vision this year and dental the year before that. If you want to cover your family for medical it cost around $1500 out of pocket per month for a family of four - no joke!
    Leadership communication to employees is abysmal. There is no sense of vision or direction. Very silo-ed and splintered.
    Career growth/advancement is non-existent.

    Advice to Management

    Show some respect to your employees. It's a small company, yes, but that is no reason to completely dismiss and disregard your employees.

    Generally a high caliber of people worked at Smartpros - creative and professional and they seemed to care about one another

    Cons

    very bottom line focused. no sense of a corporate vision that would create a positive corporate culture. false sense of employee support

    the company seemed to lack a clear vision or mission. no sense of investment in the future and each functional area had to be its own profit center

    Pros

    Nice people and team overall. The company invests highly in their technology and product continuation. I have spent 2 years together with SmartPros and I really enjoyed it.

    Cons

    Lack of procedures and enforcement of procedures probably because of the ancient business model.

    Advice to Management

    Company should stop investment in old technologies and software used and look towards what's popular and, also, they should enforce and develop processes
