    Pros

Working remotely, some travel, a lot of great coworkers, great variety of CPG categories, qual and quant work, some freedom to create new methodologies

    Cons

Short timelines, sales people that did not understand methodology enough to sell them, long hours, expectation to work weekends, late nights across time zones, and skimpy travel & research budgets

    Advice to Management

Don't bid low just to get the project - build trust with companies so they understand that it's necessary to pay for quality work and allow adequate timelines to conduct it. Continue to promote within. Treat employees with respect and pay them on time if you expect them to stick around. You don't need 500 people on every phone call.

    Pros

Weekend shifts only, which is good for a student or someone looking for a side job

    Cons

~Weekend shifts only, which is bad for something a little more sustainable
~Over the course of two years had 5 managers
~They honor good people by giving them pizza rather than more hours/pay

    Advice to Management

The training sessions would be better if they were more interaction and involved more role playing

    Pros

-Ability to gain marketing research experience
-Offers weekend work for those who have full time employment during the week
    -Management works from home

    Cons

-Work is inconstant and not for someone who wants a 9-5 type of job
-Management works all the time without set hours
-They hirer independent contractors to act as management to avoid offering benefits.
-Company undersells projects which contributes to the lack of finances within the company
    -Low company morale.

    Advice to Management

SR has unreasonable expectations for management to work day and night during the week and on the weekend.

    Pros

They have flexible and great projects- when you can get them.

    Cons

They do not pay well at all. You need a BA for $15 and hour- $18 for master and a PHD $22. They do not pay more if you are bilingual. I speak 4 languages- but since they would not pay for it, I NEVER told them about it.
They do not have direct deposit.. They MAIL your checks. Who does that? Crazy.
They have very few people within the company that are actually professional. They hire very green people with little or no experience and them toss them into management. Most of their ' PMs' have very little knowledge of professional decorum. They will blame you if they did something wrong or they will not acknowledge any wrong doing. Zero accountability. They are very, very disorganized. To be frank the place is a joke- but if you have some extra time and want to make a few bucks- then do it. Do not expect to be impressed.

    Advice to Management

    Pay more for bilinguals.

    Pros

Flexible hours and short-term projects makes it easy to maintain your relationship with the company

    Cons

There is absolutely no chance for personal and professional development. It doesn't matter what kind of work you've done for them or for how long, or even your experience. If you don't continue to move up in degrees, you will start at $15 if you have a BA, $18 with an MA, and $22 for a PhD. For living in New York City, this is ridiculous. It's also absurd that the cap is $22/hour. All the other ethnographers I've encountered do not think highly of this company.

You have to wait up to more than a month to get paid. And they don't even do direct deposit, which I think is highly unprofessional.

It is glorified market research, not real ethnography.Their approach is outdated and they do not keep up with the times. We use old PDA devices to conduct our research on.

    Advice to Management

Unless this company begins to innovate and also maintain its talent, it will not survive.

    Pros

No micro managing, very good communication across the company & staff, the people are amazing, and the work always varies which keeps things interesting. Love this work place!

    Cons

The pay structure changed recently, and the hours are nor very consistent. sometime you'll work more than full time and sometimes there no work for months at a time.

    Advice to Management

Share the hours. Rotate schedule between everyone equally.

    Pros

Interesting work with decent pay. I was paid $18/hr and a lower rate for training and prep time. Prep time and report time was compensated, which was very nice. Direct managers are available and supportive by phone, text & email.

    Cons

When I was hired on, I was told there were not very many ethnographers in my area, so there would definitely be continuing projects for me to work on. This has turned out to not be true. Projects have been few and far between. This position is extra money once in a while only and can't be counted on for regular income at all.

    Pros

The brands and agencies you work for are among the biggest in the world. It can be very interesting work. The data you collect and analyze tells you a lot about human shopping behavior. It is even helping me write my thesis!

    Cons

There needs to be more transparency and the technology is outdated.

    Advice to Management

It's not fair to keep people wondering about the negotiation and relationships with clients. You need to let all employees know if a contract or negotiation with a client goes sour.
