  1. Great company to work for, even as a temp!

I have been working at SmartSource (More than a year)

    Pros

As I've worked for them as a Desktop/Server Tech, I've had no problem with the company. The callers, and recruiters I've talked to have been fair and just. I've received payment on time. and talked to other Smartsource agents that have previously worked for them before and they've had no problem with them either.

    Cons

Nothing to report for the cons.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing to report or Management.

I worked at SmartSource as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Clients, fun to work for their clients.

    Cons

Don't pay on time according to schedule, skip out on and/or flat out lie about expense reimbursement. I have worked for SmartSource for a year. They kept me under-employed. They pay once every two weeks, but in a period which the pay comes 3 weeks after the job is complete. Trying to get your Negotiated Expenditure Reimbursement is like pulling teeth, or dealing with the United States Judicial System. Full of loopholes, run-arounds, and wild goose chases.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the business before you are pushed out.

I worked at SmartSource (More than a year)

    Pros

easy to work with company. Was very busy on projects when assigned.

    Cons

Work was not regular you were either no work or 40+ hours. But that is nature of temporary jobs

    Advice to Management

Just keep doing a good job with your employes.

    Pros

Very Good Company to work for. The will find you contract work around your area. Very nice management, with the timely with emails of the Documents to do the work.

    Cons

Not any that I can think of

    Pros

Smart Source, Smart Source Media, and Smart Source Hosting are an excellent company to work for. Based in the heart of NYC, you really can't ask for more.

    Cons

Well, the cons would be living in NYC, though they do have locations across the country.

I have been working at SmartSource part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pretty flexible. People were cool to work with for the most part.

    Cons

Very few hours and pay per hour substandard resulting in extremely poor gross pay. Had difficulty getting reimbursed for legitimate expenses. No compensation for mileage or drive time. I could never afford to live on the earnings from this company.

    Advice to Management

Beef up your business, give your employees a decent number of hours and a livable wage.

  8. I was a Dell-Certified Service Engineer.

    Former Employee - Anonymous

    Pros

l enjoyed the opportunity to work in different environments, and the challenges associated with break-fix work. l liked showcasing my skills to my customers, and enjoyed assisting them with O/S issues.

    Cons

I didn't like dealing with certain customers, and I didn't like it when Dell would send bad parts. I preferred dealing with North American Call Centres over the Indian ones, but, by dealing with them, I learned how to understand the Indian accent better.

    Advice to Management

More hours... part time work is great, when you're a student, but not when you're trying to make a living.

I worked at SmartSource as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is good, or rather their contracted pay is good.

    Cons

I can confirm that they will not pay you your expenses unless you threaten them with a lawsuit. They want to bug you for your receipts however. They state in their agreement that they will not pay you if you fail to fulfill the agreed contracted period. It is a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act not to pay employees for their hours worked. Also, under the FLSA you cannot waive pay by contract or otherwise and they cannot assess fines. Nevertheless, the contract specifically says that it is NOT a contract but an "at will" employment notification. I probably will never hear from them again because I threatened to sue for my unpaid expenses. They paid after that.

    Advice to Management

Provide an actual contract. Pay as agreed.

I have been working at SmartSource as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smartsource comes through when it comes to finding jobs for people who sign on with them.

    Cons

On the other hand, there can be some dry spells where a person will not see work for them in a while.

    Advice to Management

Just before the current project ends for your employees it would be wise to have the recruiters have the next contract scheduled.

I have been working at SmartSource as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A good source for occasional side work without the hassle of interviewing.

    Cons

Disorganized and rigid in project requirements (i.e.- onsite work is scheduled for specific days and times and cannot be altered or rescheduled, etc.), frequent problems with getting paid or not getting paid at all. Poor communications and unreliable project scope. (Some projects should last 5 days but usually only last 2-3)

    Advice to Management

Project Management needs to be improved.
