    Proud to have worked here.

    Store Manager (Former Employee)
    Richmond, VA

ProsLots of opportunity to use training and leadership skills outside of my store. Casual working environment. Really felt valued for the work that I did. The client base we developed made the work that much better.

ConsLosing this job due to the company closing. The experience of liquidating the stock and closing out the store was pretty tough.

Advice to Senior ManagementSadly there is no advice as the company has now closed.

    Good place to work

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsQuality products, working with good people, interesting and interested customers, pleasant facility.
The product line is frequently updated and kept fresh which attracts repeat customers and adds interest to the selling job.
Mix of upscale outdoor furniture, seasonal plants -- indoor and out -- tools and things you didn't even know existed, e.g., bat and butterfly houses.

ConsSchedule changes often with little lead time - schedule Wednesday or Thursday for next week.

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage more information sharing among associates

    Avoid Smith & Hawken.

    Marketing Manager (Former Employee)
    Novato, CA

ProsThe 40% Employee Discount -- you can buy beautiful orchids at an affordable price.

ConsLong hours, below-market pay, lack of cooperation and casting of blame between departments. Senior management can't stay focused on efforts that drive the business.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay focused on efforts that drive revenue. Stop hiring friends from the Gap and instead look for people who know how to run a successful direct-to-consumer business.

    meh

    Sales Lead (Current Employee)

Prosgood benefits. friendly people. sales associates know what they are talking about and go through product training. very positive in the field of customer service

Conscompany tried to sell high end furniture rather than focusing on return gardening customers. this let to its eventual liquidation.

Advice to Senior Managementit would have been beneficial to the company if poorly performing stores had been closed rather than saved only to drag down stores that do well
