Pros
most jobs dont require any lifting whatsoever,
Cons
some lines require you to lift 60-70 pound hams up onto another conveyor belt, and thats about the only hard part
Pros
Pay is decent and in line with industry
Cons
Benefits, and management is very sub par
Advice to Senior Management
Lose the attitude
Pros
The benefits alone are worth working here. You get raises every 6 months and it is a very nice place to work.
Cons
I have no cons at working at Smithfield because it is an awesome place to work.If you haven't tried working here then you don't need to say anything bad about it.
Advice to Senior Management
I think all of the management are doing an awesome job at the location where I work and I wouldn't want to work anywhere else.
Pros
Good Benefits able to move up in producton good pay my hours are good now paid vacation paid holidays
Cons
the point system the pain involved there are some good supervisors but there are others that dont understand the waything should be done we are the ones that do the job hands on so i believe when there is an easier way of doing the job but the same amount of work is being done and its less strain on us it should be took into concideration
Advice to Senior Management
I know u cant put this company on tv but I believe we need to have an undercover boss come in every plant from somewhere high up in the chain so they can see for there selves the thing really going on then mabey if they try and do a job hands on they will see there are better ways of getting the right amount of production done at a smoother and more organized fashion
Pros
If you can bring yourself to kiss the boss's butt you can advance and do pretty well. If you can't you
end up like me! See above.
Cons
Long hours, Cold damp environment, low wages.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees as the assets they are. Don't just use them and throw them away.
Pros
the people whom i worked with were great good employees ,but you wouldnt know this by the raises
Cons
they dont care about your family time or things that sometime come up an you have to miss a day. the care more about the product than the people
Advice to Senior Management
production is good it makes you money, so you should give better raises to employees, an remember they have families
Pros
The pay is better than most other companies in the area. Location, I only live two miles away from work.
Cons
The health problems I've had due to the climate of the workplace. The company doesn't think the cold is a contributing factor.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop trying to keep employees and management that make the job 10 times harder than it should be. Start keeping the good employees even though they make an opinion that you may not like.
Pros
benafits and good about given breaks and overtime.
Cons
managent wont lisen to workers on input in safty meeting and no team work
Advice to Senior Management
if white hats put quaity first it would be better, they just want to get the meat out the door ,so it looks better for corpate ,hourly wage people work hardes get paid lowest ,if they would pay more they would get even better ,and maybe have more team work.
Pros
My top choice of working for Smithfield is, I definitely love the people, and I enjoy my job.
Cons
When they tell you are off and then you're not, you have to miss out on your plans.
Advice to Senior Management
We have a life and other family outside of Smithfield, cause I personally do consider Smithfield my family.
