I worked at Soaring Eagle Casino part-time

    Pros

Consistent shifts and hours for the most part. Hard work is recognized, remembered, and (unofficially) rewarded.

    Cons

Way too much gossiping, bickering, jealousy, and just general nosiness among employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider PTO for part-time employees a bit sooner into employment; most of your part-timers are part-timers for the simple fact that they have other obligations (such as school or another job), so they're crunched for time and will eventually have to call in for some reason, leaving the rest of the staff short.

I worked at Soaring Eagle Casino part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The highest paying job I've ever had. Started high $10s/hour. Worked with college class schedule. Some good people work for the company.

    Cons

Management is horrible and very unethical. Manager was not a very pleasant person to be around and on top of it he would attempt sexual advances towards employees. The director was a member of the tribe. Verbally expressed his hatred for white people multiple times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't hit on your employees and keep your opinions to yourself.

    Pros

My experience they offered a decent pay, and a lot of hours. Works with college classes, but really nothing else matters to them.

    Cons

Don't plan on getting promoted if you arn't a native. Also, you are either working with college kids paying they're way through college, or towns people, who usually are poorly educated. Both can be hard workers, but are two completely different types of people who dont always see eye to eye.

I worked at Soaring Eagle Casino full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay for the area. Good benefit package. Many departments to gain expanded work experience and diversify business practices and relationships.

    Cons

You'll hit the advancement ceiling within years unless you are a tribal member. Resort run by an ever-changing tribal leadership; only a few of who have true business knowledge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire and retain based upon ability, not ethnic background. Equal opportunity and less reverse discrimination.

    Pros

Great money, managers in the restaurants were flexible working with my schedule whether it was for school or personal reasons. Had a lot of fun with co-workers!

    Cons

Leaving at midnight to be back at 7 AM. Cashing tables out using cashiers-oh the troubles!

    Pros

Overall the environment is decent and very laid back. There is not a lot of micromanagement as long as you consistently get your work done on time.

    Cons

There is minimal room for advancement and growth, and there is a lot of politics that come along with working at this company. The morale at this company is also very low, most of the employees appear to be disgusted with this place.

I worked at Soaring Eagle Casino part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good wage at the end of the day, this is solely because of tips. The Soaring Eagle lacks good pros in recent years, as with new senior management bringing changes in policy's that are not beneficial to the employee. Good 401K program, good employment for a college student.

    Cons

Poor conditions. Casino pays low wage in almost all positions and rely's on tips to fill the void. Good mid level management is few and far between. This could be due to the lack of requirements to becoming a manager. Good employees are just asked to work harder to make up for employees that call in or are poor quality. Minimal rewards for good hardworking employees. Raises are terrible and barely keep up with inflation. Preferred hiring is NEVER a good idea. This is because it creates an inefficiency as the best person for the job should do the work. Very inefficient work place altho with a new CEO potential for change is possible. The SECR is successful, only due to the fact that there is a lack of substitutes in the area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management will struggle to make any changes that will benefit the company. This is dues to tribal council being involved instead of allowing senior management to run things like they are paid to do. Significant changes that need to be made include revoking of preferred hiring. Significant changes in the organizational structure including changes in the evaluation process and a better reward system. Decision making rights fall on those with only experience to draw from. A lack of good education in management practice is evident among mid-level and lower-level managers.
