Pros
Cafeteria, with cheap lunches
Parking
Good PCs
Benefits ok
Pay ok
Cons
No company car for my level
No company cell phone for my level
Pros
Good pension plan, decent benefits, flexible with time off if you are part time. Good vacation time for full time.
Cons
Low wages, communication sometimes not the best. Generally a rather anal corporate culture, especially in the Atlantic region. Advancement opportunities can be given out unfairly.
Advice to Senior Management
A more transparent and fairer process with regard to promotions would be beneficial. Advertising externally for positions while there was good internal talent caused a lowering of morale.
Pros
If it's a slow pace your looking for (relative to the competition) this is the place for you.
Cons
Will hit you with vague charges to minimize and elimate bonuses. Cheap company overall. Discourage store level donations.
Pros
- good compensation
- good co-workers
- opportunity to advance
Cons
- little recognition in some cases
- some have unrealistic expectations
- work load
Pros
flexible schedual
average pay
works with school hours
Cons
depressing work
no reward for working hard
only motivation is to do the bare minimum
supervisor has no respect for the work we do
Treated like garbage
Supervisor on power trip
knowbody has anything good to say about anything
the only meetings we have is to remind us of something wrong were doing we are never rewarded for anything
Advice to Senior Management
Ask your employees how much they respect their supervisor. The answer will be the same if i see him otuside of work I will either ignor him or hit him.
Pros
Excellent benefits program, Great people, Generally good pay, Some very strong and smart people who are genuinely interested in the betterment of the organization
Cons
Lack of strategy and focus, Unethical behavior of leaders , Lack of communication, Unclear and shifting priorities, Lack of recognition and just expected to deliver, no clear understanding of a career path for me
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees, communicate often, engage them and get rid of the useless leadership who don't do anything but somehow still manage to be employed.
Pros
always opportunities to advance, a great learning experience and chance to get to know more people, creating some lasing friendships
Cons
I havent experienced any yet, I have only been at sobeys a few weeks, I am sure I will have more feedback when I have been there longer
Advice to Senior Management
some advice to management would be to work more hands on with the employees to get a better perspective of what it is they do during the day/ or night
Pros
A cohesive environment across departments, friendly co-workers.
Flexible schedules and understanding supervisors.
Provides experience for customer service in any position.
Cons
Long hours on weekends.
Very labor-intensive for grocery.
Receiving shipments can be frustrating if drivers are not on schedule and such.
Lack of another co-worker on shifts and overwork you.
Advice to Senior Management
The work environment is very friendly, maintain that.
Managers are very understanding and do well to supervise, but it's preferable if each department manager can be more versatile in case other managers are not present.
Pros
Sobeys is a Canadian Company.
Third largest Food Retailer in Canada.
Strength is they have a strong brand from Coast to Coast.
Cons
Weak management team.
Keep employees in the dark.
Strategy is in continious change mode.
Lacking a team approach and a consistent message.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve the communication from Senior management down to the trench level employees.
Leadership should be by example not dicitated and than ignored.
Pros
- working with other people (employees/customers)
- job isn't completely similar every day but not completely different either
- no commission
- store prefers to hire/train management from store level employees
Cons
- part-timers don't get a lot of hours during the summer unless you make yourself indispensable
- management has a hard time getting rid of workers that aren't pulling their weight
Advice to Senior Management
I think you should get rid of the 3-strike rule and just make it a 1-strike rule. If someone is a no-call/no-show ONCE you should be able to fire them for inconveniencing everyone else that works there.
