    Pros

    This company is family-oriented with strong values and a commitment to investing in its employees.
    As an intern, I was treated with the same respect as all the other full time employees, some of whom have been with the company for 40+ years! I have been entrusted with a good amount of responsibilities, not what you'd typically think of as an intern. There are also numerous opportunities to take classes (online or in person) to enhance job skills and attain certifications.
    The amount of employees that are nearing retirement is substantial, meaning advancement is likely if you're good at what you do.
    My direct supervisor is by far the best boss I've every had. She is flexible with my work hours and time off.

    Cons

    Too conservative. I understand that a utility won't be as cutting-edge as some of the other industries out there, but if conservative values are slowing down innovation and necessary change, then these ideals should be re-evaluated.
    The size of the company also means that it takes a long time to get things done. For example, if you're trying to propose a new program, you may wait months to pitch the idea, and not see results for years.
    Hard to get benefits for part-time employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Extend benefits package to part-time employees/interns. The package could be at a discounted rate.

    Pros

    Excellent pay, excellent benefits (pretty decent even for PT employees), numerous job locations across SoCal, union representation

    Cons

    It is really difficult to make it out of a part time position. Technically, it's based on seniority, but then they have the right to rake you across the coals in an interview even if you already possess the qualifications. Everyone in the company knows it's all about who you know if you want to get across the PT-FT bridge. After that you make FT though it's pretty much based SOLELY on seniority.

    If you're going to be so nepotistic, quit making it so painfully obvious all the time.

    None. I'm required to place fillers here.

    Cons

    None. Tax credit hires. Terrible working conditions. Management plays favorite, and promote kiss-but employees. No one is your friend here.

    Management plays def to employee complaints, supervisors don't know what time it is, they lack basic education, and lack command for the English language.

    Supervisors lack the necessary tools to reduce overall cost, they lack the inability to improve employee performance, and also lack the ability to do their job effectively. The bottom line is that a high school student with 10 years work experience is trying to do what an MBA is prepared to do, and management still promotes supervisors that worked with them years ago.

    So the management will play favorite, even though these supervisors don't know what six sigma is even though its free to learn at the firm, these supervisors don't want to learn. So supervisors are just watching out that their jobs are not in or won't be taken away from them. Company is filled with engineers, and these people lack basic human interaction, and can't communicate effectively in person, and majority of times they are rude, condescending, and lack common courtesy to other employees.

    Employees with true management and leadership experience will usually be fired for unbeknownst reasons, because they pose the biggest threats to immediate supervisors. Managers overly train employees, which reduces employee performance, and even creates employee distractions. Supervisors if your training your employees with anything, let it be relevant to the employees actual work your wasting company time and money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    First of all go to school, finish your education. Second of all management needs to get their heads out of the sand (managers, and directors), supervisors are running this company to the ground.

    These supervisors leading departments of 20-30 employees have these positions because they have been with the company for years, and not because they are qualified.

    Terrible supervisors, and even worse managers, they keep promoting mediocrity at its best. Most supervisors are uneducated, and hardly know how to draft proper emails, so they lack basic command of the English language. Supervisors are easily threatened by employees who are educated and have true management potential. These supervisors couldn't manage a checking account, let alone a department of 20-30 employees.

    Absolutely terrible place to work, full of political relationships waiting to backstabbing you at any moments notice. Employees are worse, employees will gossip and gossip, and will take advantage of the employers by taking 2-3 hour lunches, and the employees will promote stealing company time. Worse place to work. Place is full of introverts who can't tell you straight up how they feel. Supervisors are trying to do their jobs and failing to do so.

    Processes that should be done by MBAs are being done by people who don't know what an AA degree is, because they don't have one. Terrible place to work. If your an introvert, hate speaking to people face to face, like terrible managers, and enjoy being back stabbed, by all means this place sucks. Wouldn't wish it upon my worse nightmare.

    Compensation is great, great benefits, people there are great. you are actually valued as an employee and person, opportunity for advancement, flexible schedules, help pay for school, union job

    Work in the downtown headquarters. The work culture is very nice - plenty of diverse and young talent in my group.

    Cons

    My program was just starting up, so there was plenty of movement and changing policies at the time.
