Many people are quite competent and hard working. You can learn a great deal. You can contribute and be recognized for the contribution.

The French do have a bit of a glass ceiling for Americans at the Director and above levels . It is definitely NOT insurmountable, and my impression is that many more expats from France come here to New York than Americans go to Paris. But some Americans DO get through it.

Either decide to be International or French - the answer should dictate the worldwide staffing assignments.
