I worked at SocialChorus full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You will get more responsibility than you probably deserve here. And it's up to you whether you want to take risks, learn on your own, and get more valuable try-and-fail experience than you'll be allowed anywhere else. So if you're confident, hard-working, and hard-charging this is the place for you. Not the best perks, but looking back, I'd way rather have gotten the experience and responsibility I did than a catered lunch every day.

    Cons

There's not a lot of mentorship happening. There is no sparkling pure vision. The company is working in a really difficult space. They're figuring it out as they go along (as are their competitors). Basically, nobody's got it figured out. So nobody at this company will spell it all out for you, because they don't really know. They're figuring it out as they go along, just like you will.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on your on-boarding. Hook new employees up with a "buddy" who is responsible for them for a couple months. Come up with some mythology to help bind the team around something more than "we work hard together."

I have been working at SocialChorus full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Young atmosphere and fun culture. Free, catered lunch every Wednesday. Team members are helpful, outgoing, and welcoming. Office is in a great location in the embarcadero, right next to the Muni/BART station and nice views of downtown SF. The company pays for happy hr's a couple times a month. Everything is very transparent when it comes to career development and leadership. Everyone is very goal-oriented and driven to succeed.

    Cons

Sick days aren't listed in the contract, only PTO.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at SocialChorus full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of autonomy, nice location, good benefits (401K, tax-free transit, partially healthcare coverage). Occasional free lunches (so long as you're not a vegetarian).

    Cons

Not a lot of respect of employees from upper management (especially if you're a create type). Employees often kept in the dark about policy changes, new directions, etc. Generally unfocused as a company, but with plenty of cronies willing to change their outlook on business at a moment's notice. A company that expects more loyalty than its willing to give.

Good people and a solid idea, but misguided by management and investors.

I worked at SocialChorus full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The people who work there are all great and enjoy spending time together both during and after work. Unlike some startups they're serious about maintaining a life-work balance and almost always work 9-6 days.

    Cons

Product was riddled with bugs and didn't seem to be improving over time. It's a solid idea, but that only goes so far. Employee turnover was very high.

I have been working at SocialChorus full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good culture, fun people, doing well in their market / category. I enjoy coming in to work every day, which is saying a lot.

    Cons

It's a start up. So there's always a lot of work to be done and never enough people to do it. You either love that kind of environment or you don't.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move offices, current ones are showing their age.

I have been working at SocialChorus full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Very great people to work with with everyone being very open and accessible. The Product and Development teams are trying to build a work culture that emphasizes best work practices and skill-learning rather than getting the working its employees as hastily as possible. I feel like my time is respected despite being an employee for less than a year.

    Cons

The company is going through some growing pains and has been expanding as a company and a business. Several new hires coming in and no stopping in sight. I'm both excited and anxious to see if SocialChorus can make a transition to being a larger company that can handle a lot more employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the product of high quality and not rely on roughly created features sets to sell it.
