I worked at Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication SCRL (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Apparently has good benefits -- which contractors do not receive. Supposed to be a good place from which to retire.

    Cons

The low-level management in software development run the place like a sweat shop. While they are lax about what time you arrive there in the morning, or when they arrive at a meeting, the development managers stand around near the top of the stairs watching who is leaving on time near the end of what should be the work day. If you, as a developer, haven't finished some task on time, they expect you to stay there until the task is completed, even if you have to stay all night. Perhaps this explains why they have such a high turn-over of standard employees.

    Advice to Management

Come into the twentieth century, or maybe even the twenty-first. Learn how to do formal time estimation for software development.

I worked at Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication SCRL (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, work life balance. Commute against traffic. Aging staff. Far less younger people. Good to retire company good 401k match.

    Cons

Not so good work. Good to retire and not good to start the career. No growth option or internal mobility.

    Advice to Management

    Be innovative.

    Pros

Workplace is beautiful and location is prime. People are diverse, smart, and lively. The insurance and retirement benefits are incomparable.

    Cons

The senior management I have come into direct contact with, although smart, has a frequency to overreact and display harshness towards coworkers and those below him.

    Advice to Management

The management is brilliant, but some people have flaws that should perhaps be discussed with them by the company's heads.

I have been working at Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication SCRL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great benefits (I mean really exceptional benefits) - Reasonable work/life balance (stressful periods but overall a good balance) - Good co-workers

    Cons

    - Risk averse in the extreme (almost zero innovation - "old" management is the worst) - No advancement opportunities (so many 30 year senior managers well past their prime) - Dictatorial/micromanaging upper management (raised voices and "my way or the highway" approach is common)

    Advice to Management

You are not always correct. Getting angry all the time does not make you more right. Really value the employees instead of just paying lip service to "caring." Do not confuse people being comfortable in their jobs as bring happy in their jobs.

    Pros

Great benefits, very talented and hard working teams of people. Interesting projects and a good work life balance.

    Cons

    Not much room for growth.

    Pros

SWIFT has insanely good benefits and competitive salaries. Cafeterias in work locations and focus on training are also very nice.

    Cons

It's easy to get stuck in one spot and stop learning new things. A lot of positions have very limited room for creativity.

    Advice to Management

Encourage people to move around outside of the company as well as within. Too many people stay forever, which creates all kinds of problems for promotions and morale. It also makes it hard for those employees to find jobs elsewhere, even if they wanted to.

    Pros

Great salary and benefits and very family friendly. Supportive work-life balance. Great co-workers. Nice offices. Excellent training opportunities with Swift University.

    Cons

European based bureaucracy slows the pace for promotions and professional advancement. Would have liked to see more encouragement from upper management for pro-activeness.

    Advice to Management

Be more open-minded to younger generations.
