Pros
Retirement plan, competitive salary, opportunities for continuing education and advancement, supportive network
Cons
For me, variable hours. From the experience of others, difficulty to advance, but this was not my perception.
Pros
Accounts across the country so there is opportunity to move locations
Good pay/benefits for salaried managers
When positions come available, they look internal first giving current employees opportunities to move up
Cons
Your experience at Sodexo is very dependent on who your district manager is. Some are great, others are not. There is not a lot of leadership training available so many managers just don't know how to do their jobs.
You are expected to commit a lot of time to Sodexo before you will be given an opportunity to really get promoted. In order to "move up the ladder" you're required to bounce from account to account and will not make senior management until you've proven that you drank the Sodexo Kool-Aid. Many of the senior managers are only senior managers because they've been at Sodexo the longest.
Pros
At my particular unit the management is understanding when dealing with professional and personal issues.
Cons
The lack of communication ie. when promotion occurs, and lack of info on expectations from management.
Advice to Senior Management
Please communicate to your employees when an promotion occurs and to have an overview of the new position.
Pros
Benefits are generous, great customers and staff, promotions offered frequently.
Cons
Long hours, little labor support for small units.
Pros
Total autonomy, make numbers and take care of your clients.
Do this and it will be the best job you've ever had.
Great benefits great boss, flexible schedules. Autonomy to
run your district like a portfolio manager but there are tons
of corporate resources to ensure success from HR, Finance, and Marketing
Cons
Travel can be extensive, but part of the job.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great job!
Pros
As a part time student, I found the general manager willing to accomodate my needs regarding scheduling. My immediate supervisor was also respectful and easy to work with.
Cons
The biggest problem with this job, and the reason I decided to quit, was that the organizational structure and hierarchy were not properly adhered to. Several staff members who had higher positions than me but were not my supervisors took it upon themselves to offer unsolicited criticism of the way I did my work. Entry level food services positions are not rocket science, and since my supervisor and the general manager were not only pleased with my work but were closely involved (to the point of being nitpicky) in guiding me, I resented having coworkers second guessing me. Bureaucracy and micro-management thus made a job which could have been merely tedious quickly unbearable.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop assigning so many mid-level titles to front-line staff members. In my experience, it gives too many people a free pass to treat co-workers condescendingly and undercuts the much more productive organizational structure that a team environment allows for.
Pros
SEVERAL locations provides flexibility in work location.
Cons
Seasonal work at some locations.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer professional training to those interested.
Pros
It is a job, in this economic downturn, that says something. Some of the people are good to work with.
Cons
terrible pay, advancement opportunities are non existent for "over 40" employees.. phony and incorrect write up of tardies right before raise time. Initial pay offering and actual is incorrect.
Advice to Senior Management
Review overall efficiency of each location and reward by merit, instead of trying to find a way not to reward..
Pros
Diversity
Great Support from Upper Management
Cons
High turnover with hourly staff
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work!
Pros
Great benefits, great pay offers full health 401k moved up in the company very quickly very honey family type atmosphere
Cons
Leadership is horrible unorganized work ethic they act like they don't have a care on the world management careless
Advice to Senior Management
Learn communication skills try to relate to the employees instead of just looking at them as hourlys better raises
