Pros
Software AG is a stable place to work and continues to grow year over year. The leadership is solid though very far away in Germany.
Cons
Very much a top down approach to management that is then carried forward through the ranks. Although there is a leadership team in the US, all decisions are made from Germany making executives inaccessible. Culturally, it is a very conservative company.
Pros
the company has good modern offices and there are some really nice people working there.
Cons
The senior management have become very political over the past few years and changes in the board structure made that situation worse. Some good managers have left the business in the last year, and the replacements are more politically driven, worrying about themselves rather than the people that work for them. A rush of acquisitions have not been properly digested by Software AG over the past two years and this has resulted in the sales people being confused about what they are selling. Revenue growth has weakened recently because the board has become obsessed with cost control and profit margin and with measures that inhibit the freedom of the staff to do their jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
Lose the obsession with centralised cost control, the bureaucracy stifles the business
Pros
Great Products, Great Local Management, Good Opportunity to make Money, Many Loyal Customers
Cons
Run by Brit and Germans who dont fully understand US Market or fully understand the Middleware Space, too slow to innovate and low investment in sales and marketing
Advice to Senior Management
Hire new Board Leadership, become more US Centric, become more market and client driven
Pros
Product suite is very superior compared to competition. Compensation model is very satisfying compared to similar vendors in this space.
Cons
The organization is too large and unmanaged in certain areas. Most of the key decisions are taken in Germany and not in the US.
Advice to Senior Management
Brand establishment is critical to survive in the US. Four years after acquiring webMethods and still, very little has been done to enhance the SAG brand in the US.
Pros
Not much work
WFH options
Employee friendly
Cons
Work may not be recognized
Promotions are unfair
Managers are not technical qualified
Advice to Senior Management
Try to retain best talent.
Pros
Good, growing company with excellent products.
Cons
Many changes, missing a good HR program and possibilities to career planning.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on being a world wide organization and not locally or area oriented.
Pros
Nobody cares much about your productivity. You can easily balance your personal life.
Cons
It gets boring in sometime. Becomes a 9-5 job.
Advice to Senior Management
Empower your managers.
Pros
You can learn about the Enterprise Application Integration (EAI)/ Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Cons
The management handles the employees as un-skilled workforce.
Advice to Senior Management
Give ownership and freedom to the employees. Review it periodically. It may do wonders.
