    I worked at Software AG North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Work-life balance is better than most companies. Depending on your manager, you can have pretty flexible working arrangements. Do your job and there shouldn't be any problems.

    Lots of very smart and friendly co-workers. I learned a lot and made lasting friendships. Also have the exposure to work on a global scale with customers and coworkers.

    25cent items in the vending machine. Monthly breakfasts/lunches. Kid's Holiday Party. Group outing.

    Cons

    Very archaic ways. No internal process is easy. An organization that touts it's ability for seamless process management should not have such round about implementations for simple business processes.

    Little to no growth opportunity. Evidence is the many employees with close to a decade of time with company in the same or similar roles. Growing requires knowing the right person in the organization at the right time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I don't think Darmstadt, Germany (Headquarters) has any idea what they want to do with the business. Stop with the vague e-mails from Karl Heinz with subject "Announcement" of some "strategy" change that will change again in a month

    Great benefits and team; OK work-life balance depending on your manager.

    Cons

    Slow to change old way of thinking and doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reward the employees that truly get the job done, i.e. those in back office positions with titles less than manager. Get those "lifers" out of there and get some new blood in!

    Relaxed workplace about 75% of the time
    Company provides meals often

    Lack of communication between management and employees
    Growth & promotion potential minimal at best
    Low pay for work put in with minimal recognition from management
    Stuck in old ways/fear of change in procedures

    Communicate better as a company
    Reward the employees that are willing to work hard
    Create some SOP's for your business plans and department structures

    Lots of travel
    Disconnect between upper management and those in the field
    No advancement from within - too many outsiders brought in for upper jobs
    Immediate supervisors lie about promotions to entice employees to remain

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Advance from within. Only your current employees understand the culture and the areas that need the most improvement. Germany needs to take hands-off approach with North America operations. When a supervisor says an employee will receive a promotion for specific performance (e.g. - superior reviews; excellent customer feedback; high P/E ratios on contracts), then the promotion should occur!

    Good products
    Fair benefits
    Smart people
    Good job with acquiring talent
    Depending on division--flexible schedule
    Great location 
    People seem to make  the best out of situation

    Cons

     Employees are not empowered
    Poor managers
    Very little communication from HQ or mgmt in NA
    Company's policies are not employee friendly--ex. trying to get reimbursed for expenses is laborious and takes too long to get your money - extremely frustrating when you travel frequently 
    Very little automation
    HR  un-effective -no programs /non revenue generating employees unappreciated (low salaries)
    Risk adverse

    All items above can be rectified if senior management would focus a bit on their employees than profits.

    More collaboration between countries
    Encourage communication between countries
    Consistent communication
    Software AG has great potential and great products
    Human Capital is your greatest resource

    Pros

    Some decent technology, such as the integration technologies from the webMethods acquisition and the acquisition of IDS Scheer. Good benefits package, and Software AG kicks in for 401K which isn't as common as you might think in tech.

    Cons

    SoftwareAG is legendary for being slow moving, and believing the world is the way they see it. Seriously in need of some market leading (rather than market following) technology leadership, rather than Ivory Tower academics. Other companies are inventing the future, Software AG is often distantly following.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop blaming your customers for your problems. The technology world is NOT the way you see it. It's not standing still, waiting for SofwareAG to catch up. It's moved on to newer ways of doing things, such as virtualization, cloud technologies, and lower effort ways of building applications. The effort involved in upgrading, patching, administering, and supporting your products is often crippling to your customers, and many of them are moving to solutions which are far simpler to maintain.

    Very good, very well received, industry leading products, great benefits, good office locations, commitment to excellence by management, lots of long term employee's provide a rich culture, many opportunities to travel worldwide

    Cons

    The constant strive for profitability can be a drag on moral, but now that they have paid their first bonus since the aquisition of webMethods, everyone really appreciates actually getting a bonus and getting a very nice bonus.

    Continue taking care of the people and keep the focus on so we can achieve the 1billion Euro goal.

    I have been working at Software AG North America

    Pros

    The company is a great place to work. Lots of chance to expand within your career, lots of cool technology. While the company has been around for 40 years they have shown a willingness to embrace new technology. Most recently in SOA, BPM, and ESB with their purchase of webMethods. Last March they announced AlignSpace which is an innovative BPM collaboration tool in the cloud.

    Cons

    The company, while headquartered in German, has offices around the globe. This can be challenging, but they do a great job of trying to keep communication paths open.

    Keep doing what you are doing. It's hard to argue with the continued growth of the company.
